IMO, one of the most profound doctrines of the Church is the nature of man and our relationship to God. It rings true in my heart, and helps my head deal with the vagaries of mortality. It helps me StayLDS.

A recent Salt Lake Tribune’s article’s discussed Mormonism’s teachings on deification, a subject that is frequently treated superficially by many members, and derided by critics.

Following is a link to the newspaper article for a quick read. Following that is the entire essay that is well written and documented. I think many at StayLDS will enjoy them.

Here’s the Salt Lake Tribune article: http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/lifestyle/57597557-80/god-lds-mormon-says.html.csp

And here’s the Gospel Topics essay: https://www.lds.org/topics/becoming-like-god?lang=eng

[Admin Note]: There is another current thread about the explanation on lds.org, so let’s focus this discussion on the Tribune article.

There was an interesting statement in the Trib article:

    Quote:

The “Becoming Like God” essay comes on the heels of other recent postings designed to help Mormons and others better understand sometimes-sticky theological or historical issues in Mormonism.

I think that is an apt description of the series of essays.
