What is so sad is that I can’t even send my family the report of my presentation as all they would see is that I left the church and affirm gays. I would have liked them to see all the great things I said about the church and how I reach out to gay and love them. Oh, well at least I have my staylds family who understands.

We had to ditch Stake Conference to attend and we didn’t see any other LDS persons there. The next Sunday a guy in church (BTW a great, really humble guy) mentioned that he didn’t know anyone who wasn’t already a member. I was flabbergasted. Not quite understanding what you said here Roy. Could you explain what you meant by ‘he didn’t know anyone who wasnlt already a member?” …like at church or at this activity or what?

Sorry! What I meant was that there was an annual community worship service that had been taking place on the same Sunday for years (as long as many people could remember). It seemed that the LDS wards either didn’t get the memo, or weren’t invited (a strong possibility), but I felt like an opportunity was missed for the LDS to identify themselves as part of the community.

The next Sunday we were back in our LDS ward and one of the guys in EQ says that he doesn’t even know anyone that is not LDS. My point is – why do we have a culture that is so cliquish and insular that a grown man might not have any interactions with persons not of his faith? I know tons of non-LDS persons and for the most part they are great people. I am tempted to speculate that had it not been for you, no invitation would have been sent to the LDS meetinghouse asking for representatives to do a presentation on the LDS church for the gay affirming church or if an invitation were sent – that it would be largely ignored.

And don’t forget Chuck! What a blessing it is to have him by your side as you travel in your journey.

New, interesting update…Ever since I gave this presentation the owner of the Christian gay forum I am on has been so impressed with me that she put my whole presentation on the Mormon page of her website and asked me to be a voluenteer counselor on her website. I was surprised and honored so agreed. Well, it was put on their monthly newsletter with links to this and some of the evangelical gay Christians bashed the owner for doing this and have now left the group because she did not change her mind.

I am always amazed at how evil and bad some Christians think Mormonism is. Even if you are an ex-Mormon you are still considered evil because you were once Mormon. Why are some ‘so-called’ christians so up in the air about this? It still amazes me.

Basically it comes out of the idea that Mormonism is a hoax church, made up by a fraudulent Joseph Smith, or worse demons. They also think that the modern church is a totalitarian organization, and probably aren’t happy about exclusivity claims either.

There are also issues over the Trinity, Lucifer being Jesus’ brother, pre-mortal existence, the afterlife, and polytheism.
