Bullying at church is another subject included in being safe at church.

I met and became friends with the mother of this family in High School. Jacob ended his life in June of 2014. In this article they (the parents) detail a proposal to help stop bullying in our youth at church. The Church’s response in the wake of Jacob’s death to the bullying that happened at church activities was a shock to these grieving parents.

As a result of the experience of the family in the aftermath of their son’s death they have now recently joined the Community of Christ church. My connection to the family is small and I am not privy to the details but I can only imagine the decision to change their church affiliation was a long time (3.5 years) in coming and carefully evaluated. I support them in their path towards whatever healing they can find.

I definitely wish this was more of a focus.

I thought this article was interesting.

I’m sure some people even carry a gun to the temple.

I’m bumping this up again. The Church released a new policy statement yesterday.

I found it interesting. I hope they talk about it at Church.

    Quote:

First, if something seems out of the ordinary, doesn’t fit or doesn’t feel right, tell someone immediately.

“Second, the number-one thing that can help someone if they find themselves in an active shooter situation is to follow the principles of ‘run, hide, fight.’

I also hope they talk about it in church. Maybe I can help push to make that happen in my local ward.

They talk about emergency preparedness, food storage, floods and hurricanes….I would not think this topic is out of place for church. It is practical.

Many corporations are doing more training like this for employees…the church is pretty corporate-minded and wouldn’t be surprising to follow suit.

It is a sad thing we need to worry about such evils in the world. But we cannot expect the Lord to send angels to protect us…we need practical protections and plans for real-world scenarios. I can’t even imagine being a Mormon on the unlawful wild west in the 1800s.
