GuestThe best thing to come out of this whole Gay news conference thing was this quote from Elder Christofferson in an interview afterword published here in the SLTribQuote:What does the LDS Church think of members who back same-sex marriage?
“There hasn’t been any litmus test or standard imposed that you couldn’t support that if you want to support it,” Christofferson said, “if that’s your belief and you think it’s right.”
Any Latter-day Saint can have a belief “on either side of this issue,” he said. “That’s not uncommon.”
Problems arise only when a member makes “a public, sustained opposition to the church itself or the church leaders and tries to draw others after them,” he said, and that support swells into “advocacy.”
I’ve printed out a copy, and have put it in my scriptures. I’m just waiting for a chance to whip it out in SS or HPG meeting and correct somebody!January 28, 2015 at 11:26 pm #294798Anonymous
GuestFWIW, I marched in a Pride Parade last summer with Mormons Building Bridges. Several people know that I did, including a member of the Stake High Council. I have not been made to answer to the Church in any way. January 29, 2015 at 3:42 am #294799Anonymous
GuestThis quote has been a double edged sword for me… On the one hand it is very exciting because it has the potential of showing that I truly can be a part of this church no matter how tall or high my testimony is.
On the other hand if I ever do have contrary unorthodox views I must make sure they are not broadcasted too loudly.
The size of my unorthodox voice is directly proportional to the chance of being disciplined divided by factor X; Factor X being leadership roulette.

GuestI also saw that in the Q/A the mormonsandgays website was brought up and how it was not ever talked about. The reply was that it was being updated and they would be talking about it more. Maybe in time for conference? Interesting times. It is hard to find the time to read all the blogs right now with this and the John ex issue going on.
The only thing that I find a bit bothersome is how many extreme comments there are. From “since there is so many people saying X is wrong, then X MUST be true” to ex-mo’s screaming “can’t you stupid idiots see what is in front of you.” I am so glad for this site to have a more calm discussion and where at least I feel that we have some comprehension of BOTH sides.
