GuestI have had an uneasy feeling about Bob Dixon ever since he started participating here. I couldn’t put my finger on exactly why, but it’s been there. In the current Church vs. Gospel thread, he wrote a very good comment – but it included the following line:
Quote:If it were me I wouldn’t be asking strangers on the internet about this.
I responded publicly with a very strong warning, since I want it in writing for everyone to read, but it confirmed what has been nagging at me.
I’m not certain of his purpose in being here, and I’m not certain he doesn’t have a hidden agenda.
I just want to put that out there and ask everyone to read his comments carefully.

GuestI was about to respond in that thread. It didn’t hit me the same way, I took it as an offering of his personal approach – FWIW. I’ve seen Bob around over the years, he walks his own road, I think he is comfortable with that and I don’t see him looking for converts – but he likes to offer another perspective. That’s my take anyway.

GuestThat’s cool. Like I said, it’s just a vibe from other similar things he’s said that weren’t so blatant. I just don’t want that sort of statement here. If someone leaves because they’ve reached peace with a personal decision (no matter what it is), that’s fine – but encouraging people not to talk about questions and concerns online? That crosses a bright line, imo.

GuestI’ve had a good history of interactions with him in the past. He used to go by the handle “Christfollower” on NOM. I also had a lot of interaction with him on the Open Mormon forum a couple years ago. Unless something dramatic has changed, he’s always been a real solid guy. He tried very hard to stay connected to the LDS Church. I think Orson’s comment is the best description: he follows his own path. He drifted towards a more solid foundation in mainstream Christianity during his transition, but I really would never expect him to become one of those annoying evangelicals that comes around trying to find followers. That really doesn’t seem like his personality. He’s VERY stage-5-ish about religion, and I have enjoyed his insights into Mormonism in the past. He likes Mormon theology and likes the BoM, if I remember correctly.
But as always, keep an eye out. Ray, keep us informed if he sets off any alarm bells.

GuestI think Bob Dixon’s a pretty good guy, too. I’ve known him on line for a few years. He’s pretty even keeled and doesn’t evangelize his beliefs. July 7, 2012 at 6:50 pm #254925Anonymous

I don’t know if my thought was communicated well, I read his comment as his personal reflection – saying it wouldn’t be in his comfort zone to ask for advice on this specific topic online. I can see how it came across as a type of condemnation toward the question being asked, but I interpreted the intent as more of a personal reflection (and food for thought) than an exhortation.

GuestFwiw, I’m glad I wrote what I wrote simply because the author of the post had the same reaction and appreciated my mention of that line. I have no problem with Bob now, after the continuing discussions on other threads. I’ll choose to chalk up my reaction to inspiration to help the author of the post, since that lets me off the hook.
