GuestQuote:It’d be nice for the church to develop an alternative program for boys who aren’t interested in scouting
It’s called Duty to God – and, overall, it’s supposed to be encouraged over Scouts as a program for all young men.

Really? This is certainly not the case in our branch/stake. Do we belong to the same church?

GuestI should probably clarify that statement to read: “It’d be nice for the church to develop an alternative activityprogram for boys who aren’t interested in scouting.” I’m not that familiar with the Duty to God award, but I sense it doesn’t have activities associated with earning it. Of course, I welcome correction if I’m wrong.

GuestNot as many of the physical activities as are involved in Scouting, but there are activities. Much of what is there can be done in conjuntion with existing Scouting activities – which means they also can be done in lieu of Scouting activities. Just as an example of the Church’s practical focus, I believe the church colleges no longer ask if a young man is an Eagle Scout – although all Eagle Scouts list it on their applications, I’m sure. The colleges do ask if a young man has earned the Duty to God award.

GuestFirst day out of school- and what do I get to do? Taking the boys overnight on a backpacking trip. Yipee! One of my many thousands of responsibilities. 😥 Who was it that was having trouble about not having a calling? Please move to my branch — WE NEED YOU!

See you in a couple days boys and girls. Out.
