I am actually looking forward to a day off, so no worries there. I am at a point that I am only active to provide stability for my teenage daughter, so a day to stay home without having to explain is good.

By the way, no one makes you go in for a discussion with the bishop. You choose to go in. I only figured that out last year. ;)

Sorry for my ignorance but I never found out why non TR holders or even non members can’t watched a televised dedication. What commandment or law does this partain to? They aren’t defiling the inside of a temple just by watching a televised cast so I am confused.

Forgotten_Charity, Well, if it were up to me, I would let anyone attend, but it’s not up to me… As for “watching a televised cast”, attendees at a temple dedication aren’t just sitting there listening. They have an actual, active role in the temple dedication ceremony. It’s by tradition, rather than doctrine… but I don’t think that is really an important distinction in this particular case.

I think a meeting on the lawn, with a couple of choir numbers and a dedicatory prayer would be a great way to dedicate a temple, and just as valid. However, temple dedications are very rare… Most members of the church will never attend a temple dedication, most of the rest of us will be lucky to attend 2 or 3 in a lifetime… so, it’s done with a little more seriousness and formality.

I only attended one in my life(San Diego). But actually this is my first time hearing of this. I don’t remember a televised broadcast being mentioned at the time San Diego was opened. Perhaps because I was there. So televised is new to me. I have always wanted to promote understanding of the temple with non members or even non TR holders understanding more what goes on and what they are working toward. Perhaps because I don’t equit sacred with secret or minimal talking of a thing. Thank you for taking the time to explain, I wasn’t aware of a televised participation part of it. San Diego was long ago and I have forgotten much.
