Someone just tried to register under the name “Bringiton” using the following justification:

    Quote:

“I’m a Mormon zealot in disguise. I know for sure that I am not supposed to tell everything to everyone, and I love it. The more anti-mormon stuff I read, the more I get my testimony strenghtened. The more ex-mormons I encounter, the more I know the church is true. It’s a strange dynamic, that also works in the opposite direction. So, bring it on, man, bring it on!”

I have no idea how to read that statement. I didn’t approve it, but I didn’t disapprove it, either.

    Any thoughts?

Don’t approve them. I’ll send them an email and find out more about what they are up to. They don’t sound like the right fit for our site. We aren’t Fight Club.

He responded quickly, and I think I am more comfortable with his answer than his original registration text. I think it just came across the wrong way originally, and he is more nuanced than he sounded. I’m going to activate his account.

    Hi, Brian!

Nice to hear from you. When I say that I am a Mormon zealot in disguise, I mean that I am a Mormon zealot, but I do not show it. When I say that I know for sure that I am not supposed to tell everything to everyone and I like it, it means that I’m aware that there are quite a few things that I am not supposed to tell to both those who are struggling and those who are strict in obedience, and I enjoy meandering on the border with both. When I say that the more I read anti-mormon literature & mingle with ex-mormons the more I have my testimony strengthened and that it works the other way around, I mean that oftimes when I read pro-mormon literature & mingle with Mormons, my testimony is challenged. “Bring it on” means exactly that.

    Best,

    Bringiton

His first post under Adam and Eve on literalness is still a bit strange to me. I guess I don’t see anything wrong with it…but I’d feel better if someone else reviewed it before it is approved.

I’m going to approve it – and follow it immediately with a comment about how it’s a good example of people finding meaning in different ways that work for them, even if those ways don’t work for others. I’ll mention that I just don’t see it that way, but that’s it OK – since the purpose isn’t to have everyone see it exactly alike but, instead, have each person see it in a way that gives meaning and “enlightenment” to them personally. (In fact, I’ll probably just cut and paste what I just wrote into my response. :P )

Just as a side I couldn’t help but see some similarities between Bringiton and my bishop. Granted my bishop can express himself in a more mature way, and probably does not share specific beliefs, but the general angle of attack reminded me of him.
