I noted to Ray privately that for someone who is eager to criticize leaders, he’s remarkably thin-skinned while he’s doing it. I agree he’s shifted a bit, certainly seems more emotional now than ever. And that he has provided a good balance to the community. He represents a more acerbic side of the discussion and makes it easier to show people where the boundaries are if they want to stay LDS. Just so you all know…Cadence has never replied to my PM. Doesn’t surprise me. He knows and has been around the block, and knows another mod contacting him is not doing so in isolation of Ray and the other mods. Just wanted you to all know. Re: the newest garment post: Cadence and cwald are trying my patience more than my kids did as two-year-olds – and I use that analogy intentionally. They are acting like little kids kicking and screaming on the floor with their fingers in their ears. They know darn well they can’t call for the elimination of the temple on this site, and they know darn well they can’t position the LDS Church as being opposed to God – but they keep doing it no matter how much we tell them to stop.
It’s like they comment just to get an admin note / reprimand / attention, just to feed their martyr complexes and create self-fulfilling prophecies. They seem like a tag-team at this point, and it finally is starting to tick me off. I’ve dealt with it for a long time and always been able to empathize and cut them slack, even as I have expressed frustration here and posted admin notes publicly.
I’ve had it. If you all can address them directly, I will try again to work on my Lamaze breathing; otherwise, I am going to suggest an end to this.
Cwald just responded by cutting and pasting from a previous comment, of his, with no other commentary. It doesn’t get much more childish than that. Like I said fingers in the ears and tongue sticking out.
Suggestions? I have nothing in the way of help left.
I’m not crazy about letting cwald encourage people to bail to NOM. That seems counter our site mission. I posted a comment in the garment thread that I thought would be helpful while still expressing myself. Please let me know if you think otherwise. I opened a new thread to discuss cwald’s latest tirade and my reactions. Ann, your comment in the garment thread about it needing to be personal and private was very appropriate IMO. :thumbup: Cadence has been mostly silent for a while, but he commented today saying it is best to stop paying tithing altogether. Not just something that he has decided to do, but universally the best thing for everyone. I commented as myself, not an admin, but I deleted an Admin Note I had written and not posted. It isn’t constant, so this is just a private vent – again.
😡 And he did it again with the beer comment. He isn’t even trying to hide it – or he let cwald use his log-in, which wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest, given how they tag-teamed when cwald got banned. I am at the end of my rope. If anyone disagrees, let me know. I might need another perspective – or confirmation that I’m not over-reacting.
I think the reaction to the beer comment was more negative than the comment itself. It was a joke, perhaps misplaced in an otherwise serious thread but it’s hard to be all serious all the time. I don’t think anyone would read the one word comment and take it seriously. It’s the kind of comment where some people go “heh” and move on to the next comment. It would have gone mostly unnoticed and forgotten but for the next several comments that followed. Maybe I’m under-reacting. I’m also completely ignorant to the history there.
The history includes a thread where he and cwald were championing, loudly, the idea that beer is completely fine and the Church is, essentially, apostate for banning it now when it wasn’t banned in the original WofW. Cadence was tag-teaming with cwald in that thread – but Cadence didn’t go nuclear like cwald did. I know it comes off as a joke to people without the history, but it pushes all my buttons coming from him. DJ was invloved in the earlier thread; hence, I think, his reaction, as well.
I’m going to edit my comment, add a simple admin note, and lock the thread I hope everyone is okay with that.
I had the same reaction as Nibbler. To the outside observer, I believe it would be seen as heavy handed. However, what is done is done and I believe that locking the thread and letting it fade into obscurity is probably not a bad way to go.
