First, YEAH!! The Chilean miners are in the process of being rescued as I type. I watched the first one hug his son and wife, and I have no admit I got emotional. One thing struck me as I watched:
The miners were all given sunglasses to wear as they emerge from the tunnel – since they have been over 2,000 feet underground and away from sunlight for over two months. If they came out of the ground without eye protection, the increased light would be very damaging – and they might need to wear the sunglasses for a while until their eyes adjust. It’s important to not rush the process – to take whatever time is necessary to avoid overexposure.
That reminded me of Pres. Uchtdorf’s AMAZING talk in General Conference about turbulence and the need to slow down while experiencing turbulence.
The common message is that when new views hurt old eyes, it’s important to slow down, wear protective eye gear AS LONG AS NECESSARY and gradually adjust to the increased light and truth.
Just wanted to share the chain of thoughts as I rejoiced for the miners, their families and Chile as a whole.
Very happy to hear that they’ve been rescued. Miners have a hard life and thirty/forty years ago, the poor folk would have been left there. Hope they’re all alright… maybe they’ll need to work on their suntans a little.
