GuestI think the whole “no activities on the Sabbath” tend to lend a “austere” appearance to our members. We shut ourselves away in our homes on Sunday. If we go out, we are judged. Maybe I just need to find a way for my family to be more involved with community service and not rely on the church organization to do it for me.

GuestToday, we were asked who could volunteer to help pick up and distribute toys for needy children – something organized by the “law and order” professionals in town. Such things are starting to pick up in our ward. December 16, 2013 at 3:33 am #277077Anonymous
GuestTwo years ago we had severe flooding in our area. Our ward did do Mormon Helping Hands on Sunday after SM. A nearby ward had no meetings at all, just helping hands. The SP, who isn’t a member of either ward, participated as well. December 16, 2013 at 5:47 pm #277078Anonymous

Last night we went to the live nativity. It had live actors in different stations representing various parts of the Christ story. Not only did they have scores of actors but they had doubles to rotate as actors became too cold/bored. I recognized a number of the actors from various churches where we participate. This had the feel of a genuine Christian interfaith event. I am going to check with my LDS contacts to see if they would be interested in participating (it was a Sunday night). If so then I will check with the event organizers (who we know) to see how we can get on board for next year.
DW and I have found such a wonderful community, why can’t our LDS friends mix & mingle? Hopefully DW and I can be the bridge to help that happen.

GuestI think one reason we don’t mix and mingle is that we are so busy furthering internal church goals there isn’t time. I intend to make time for it. You’ve inspired me to go to a church that is around the corner from us like I did a couple years ago on Christmas Eve. The other churches really do a good job of Christmas Eve.
