Saw the LDS First Presidency Christmas Devotional tonight.

Lovely music, as always, wish there was more of it.

Opening prayer mentioned that we should evaluate whether our tithes and offerings were acceptable — didn’t know if that fit into a prayer or a sermon, but ah well.

There is something amazing about Dieter Uchtdorf — puts things into perspective, the idea that perfection isn’t possible, but that the love of christ might be an ensample of how our love can overcome, and that the savior’s help and grace sustains us. Certainly not ‘grace after all we can do.’

Eyring’s presentation of the basic christmas message surrounding new nativity videos. nicely done — reminds me that the church is very good at media at this point.

Pres Monson focused a lot of time on the story, “The Mansion”, by Henry van Dyke — I saw some objections to this in other sites, but it is what it is, a parable consistent with scripture, warning not to lay treasures up on earth. He developed a cadence around he has come to… which I thought was an intresting way to wrap up.

    I thought it was edifying.

Thanks for starting this thread, Wayfarer. Good summary.

I completely agree…he must be very smart to know what message needs to be delivered to be uplifting, because he never disappoints. This was the highlight for me.

I don’t dislike Pres Monson’s message he shared, and I always feel he is a very genuine guy with a heart of gold and I feel a lot of love from him as he speaks, but the messages are not always a message that strikes me or stays with me. It is what it is.

I also like it. I would have liked it more if my family was more into it and paying attention also, but oh well. I can’t blame them, I guess.
