Ok, help me out here. One thing I find gritting my teeth at church is all the time wasted on announcements. Ok, I get the idea that communication is important so people will show up to the social events, and the youth leaders can’t plan far enough in advance to let parents know about things, but come on… Sacrament meeting announcements, then primary announcements in primary room to the teachers, then Priesthood opening exercises, then in quorum meeting individual annoucnements (which usually leave 15 minutes for a lesson)…

For a required 3 hour block of meetings, could we not find a better, more efficient use of our time??

How about 2 hours of church and newsletter handout at the door.

Am I alone on this??? (Maybe I’m just getting grumpy, but I have to drag myself to church, and then wasting my time just rubs me the wrong way, ya knwo??)

Yeah, now that I think of it, we do spend a lot of time on announcements. I think I’m always too preoccupied with my kids to really notice!!

I actually once had a bishop and he insisted that there were no announcements at all in the 3 hour block. He, like you, felt that’s what the sacrament meeting program is for. But I think it is largely left to bishoprics to decide how these things are run.

Imo, the only announcements that should be made from the pulpit are those that are critical to bring to everyone’s attention individually and can’t be covered by “please read the announcements in the program / bulletin”. There are some of those occasionally, but there aren’t close to as many as generally get announced.
