I had a good experience this past Sunday.

My son is 14 and picked out his outfit for church…got dressed and rushed out the door to get a ride with his step-mom while I collected some last things I needed to teach a lesson that I was woefully unprepared for.

When I got to church…my son was up front to pass the sacrament with the deacons. He wore a nice suit coat, with a red bow tie and black shirt.

    He passed the sacrament.

My wife leaned and whispered in my ear “Do you think we should tell him to wear a white shirt next time?”

I replied…”Nah…he looks sharp. He picked it out himself.” I wondered what others would say to him about it…I didn’t want him to get his feelings hurt. But…I wanted to let it play out.

After church he went to the bishop’s youth committee to plan events…then he rode home with me and I asked if anyone said anything about his shirt…he said several people said it was snazzy. :D I asked if the bishop said anything about passing the sacrament in his black shirt…he just said…

    Quote:

“Well, he did say white shirts are usually better, but I told him all my other shirts were in the dirty clothes, this was my only clean shirt. The bishop told me it looked nice, he was glad I was in church today. The bishop said it isn’t a big deal…when we go to Stake Trek, we have church and pass the sacrament in denim shirts, and it is fine. White shirts aren’t necessary…but maybe preferred if you have one. I told him ok.”

I’m grateful we have a bishop that cares more about my son than the color of his shirt. Years ago…I’m not sure that would have been allowed.

To make the week even better….the High Priests Group talked about home teaching for the whole class…and our goal and how we want to approach things…and left me no time for a lesson…which was awesome because I wasn’t prepared…so I was glad they did their own thing without me. :D

    It was a good week.

If any of you had some good experiences at church…please share

    Awesome Sacrament Meeting Today.

The entire meeting was on love/charity. The youth speaker knocked it out of the park. He used Corinthians Charity section. (I don’t mind Moroni’s, I just loved that he chose that one.)

The next speaker referenced a GC talk on love, then she talked about 4 love meditations.

The final speaker talked about how hard it is to love someone we really don’t like and how we should begin with courtesy. He talked about how he had a family in law that he couldn’t stand, but he set a goal to connect with the in law. Even if it was just 10 min. every month. It was really tough but he says he found that even 10 mins once a month begins to change hearts.

    Good day.

We had ward conference today. The standard here is that only the bishop and SP speak at ward conference, with the bishop’s talk being about 10 minutes. Our bishop gave a great little Monsonesque talk about doing little kindnesses for others – even just saying hello to someone you don’t usually talk to in the hall or calling someone who might be lonely. He did couch it a bit in following promptings, but these things can (and I think should) be done without promptings. And he didn;t mention reading the Book of Mormon, although he didn’t directly mention Pres. Monson either. I do like our SP and normally I don’t mind his talks, and I didn’t really mind his talk today – but it was on obedience and being blessed for obedience, etc. It paled in comparison to the shorter talk by the bishop.

My 8 year old was recovering from the stomach flu (Friday night/Saturday), and we were expecting others of us to fall sick as well, so I stayed home with the girls.

My husband went and took the sacrament because this was week #6 for us being out of church and Stake Conference is this weekend and he felt a strong need to do so. He stayed out in the foyer, and took precautions to keep everyone else safe. I got 1 meaningful conference talk in before life happened.
