Okay, so this isn’t really a topic of discussion, but I just had to share a good laugh my DH and I had today courtesy of our 4 year old daughter, Claire. I am sure many of you have heard kids mangle the words to church hymns and Primary songs, but this one beats all.

Claire LOVES her sunbeam class and her sunbeam teacher, and always is eager to share with us all she has learned that day at church. Today I was shocked as she danced around the house singing at the top of her lungs. I just couldn’t believe she was saying what she was saying! 😯 I asked her where she had heard those words, and she said her teacher had taught them to her. I pictured her sweet, elderly sunbeam teacher, and couldn’t see her being that subversive with a class of preschoolers. Then my DH walked in, heard Claire’s song and looked at me with an accusing frown. I threw my hands up defensively and said, “don’t look at me… I swear I had nothing to do with this.”

About an hour later it finally dawned on us that Claire was trying to sing the song “Nephi’s Courage”, but all she could remember (I use that word loosely) was one line that she kept singing over and over again: “Nephi was courageous”. Unfortunately, the version that came out of Claire in a crystal clear high-pitched voice was “Nephi was a racist, Nephi was a racist, Nephi was a racist, Nephi was a racist…”

Holy Crap!! That might be the funniest twist I’ve ever heard! I’ll be sharing that one with my wife – but not my kids. They all inherited my sense of humor – and soon the entire Primary and YM/YW programs (and the MTC) would be singing those words. 😈

I think this story ought to be submitted to http://overheardintheward.com/

Okay, that one’s pretty good. I think I have one to beat it though. Maybe not, your mileage may vary.

In my last ward, my wife taught Sunbeams. During sharing time one of the 8 year old girls got up and was reciting the 4th article of faith. It went a little something like this:

    Quote:

We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by a virgin for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.

All the adults, at this point, were uncontrollably snickering. It went through the ward very rapidly.

    That’s awesome! 😆

I guess that’s why so many baptisms are done by the missionaries. ;)

I want to second the recommendation to post these things on “Overheard in the Ward”. That is a hilarious site.

Also, there is a fabulous thread on Mormon Mommy Wars entitled “Adventures in Arizona” – the funniest post in the history of the Bloggernacle, imo. I’ve taken on the role of unofficial pi*p for that site, 🙄 so if you want to do me a favor . . . post these there, as well. The link is:
