As I have read all of the posts on this particular thread I just don’t understand how anyone, who has studied the issues, remains a member any longer. I just can’t get it. Save it is like belonging to the American Legion or something. Sorry.

One more comment that is nothing more than an appeal for people to leave the Church.

Do we need to ban curt? How do you all want to handle him? If I respond, it’s going to be very bluntly – and it’s going to include a mention of extreme close-mindedness and a suggestion he spend his time somewhere that will help his own spirituality instead of here.

I’ll take a crack at sending a PM to curt.

This will be part of my blunt message:

    – If you’re working through issues of how to stay and want to hear from others how they have studied things and still remain, please change from judgmental statements like “I just don’t understand how anyone, who has studied the issues, remains a member any longer” to “I’m having a hard time knowing how to stay” or “Can others share how they remain members despite these issues?”

    – Check to make sure your comments aren’t putting others down who are seriously trying to make things work and need support from us in their efforts

    – If you have chosen you cannot stay in the church, God bless you in your path, but you don’t need to participate on the board just to bring others down or promote leaving the church. Stay and participate in how you still work through spirituality without bashing the church, or leave and find another board that caters more towards negative comments about the church.

I’ll remind him we moderate things and give him a warning. I’ll let you know how he responds.

Curt is a very random and sporadic poster. I just glanced through his previous 20 or so posts, and they all point me to one overall narrative — he left the Church a long time ago and doesn’t understand why anyone else would stay. I’m not entirely sure deep down why he bothers to participate. Perhaps there is some small spark of interest, or perhaps he hasn’t processed all of his emotions about leaving. I don’t feel like he is trying to make it work though, which is our explicit mission and purpose.

I feel he is not a good content creator for the site. That to me is the ultimate criteria. We are not a completely open, public and free-speech site. We don’t allow anything and everything to be said. At least this is always my view — we are seeking people who will talk about their journey and create GOOD CONTENT for the hundreds of other people who read the site every day and never post. I am not so entirely concerned if someone has angst or is even a little angry, so long as it leads to a good discussion, and a new opportunity to hash through the process.

Curt posts short, blunt, non-conversation starters. You can’t really work with “There’s no reasonable purpose to stay in the Church once you know the history …” That is a conversation stop, unless you turn it into an argument about opinions, which almost always results in a negative spirit.

Heber, see what he says to your PM. Unless something dramatically changes, I say we just drop him — not even a temporary ban. I think a temporary ban will just leave him access to come back with worse feelings. He will see it as a punishment. Dropping someone can be done more tastefully I think.

    Curt’s response:

No worries. Sometimes I get carried away. Please accept my apologies.

Let’s give him one more chance and see what happens. If his next comment is nothing more than the same old, same old . . .

I don’t want to ban him, since I hope he can lurk and find some good in the discussions, but if he’s going to comment now and then . . .

If his next comment also is straight negative, maybe we send him another PM saying that he is welcome to lurk but one more such comment will result in being banned as an active, commenting participant. We’ll see.

Agreed. I also agree with Brian, if we just ban him, I won’t loose sleep over it, and I don’t think the forum will lose content.

He knows he’s been warned. Next time I think we straight ban him. He can lurk if he wants after that.

    Next move is his.
