Stage 1 and 2 are developmentally appropriate. I also think it is normal and healthy to spend an undetermined length of time in stage 3 – perhaps to remain there forever.
I really like the idea of the “thinking homework assignments.” you might want to reuse that later on on other discussions something like – “you’ve given me alot to think about, how did I get such an amazing daughter?”
I too worry – what if my lack of black and white teaching helps my kids to make destructive choices before they are ready for a more thoughtful morallity? There is an element of trust there, and knowing that if they slip up I will love them and help them with their skinned knees. It is a scary world out there – and my children will one day need to find their own path through it. I need to accept that, even when I might have concerns…and I do have concerns. :sick: My PB had it right – being a father is the biggest and toughest “calling” that I will ever assume.
