SD – to be fair, the quote from Pa Pa said the church is “true” – NOT “perfect”.

I agree with your distinction (and your concerns), and I might go even further and say something like the “pure Gospel” is perfect, but, as we’ve discussed already in multiple threads “true” doesn’t have to mean “perfect”. If someone wants to draw a distinction between a “true” church and it’s “not always true” people, I can accept that – even as I would add my own clarifications.

You’re right. Although I’ve never thought of people as being “true” since it’s always the Church that is so in Mormon conversation, hence my superimposition of the word “perfect”.

I’ve never thought of the gospel as being imperfect — that’s a whole new layer of discussion….and a personally “threatening” one too as it rocks central beliefs.

I think if we look at it from the perspective of human understanding always being limited/incomplete/flawed, it’s an easy hop to “our understanding of the gospel is imperfect.” From there it’s all semantics. The gospel as we understand it (as it joins to our comprehension) is imperfect, since we have no other basis of comprehension presently – for all intents and purposes: OUR “gospel” is imperfect.

    No? :?
