GuestI just activated an account for David, here is his note: Quote:I am fighting being disciplined and potentially excommunicated over my
writing and opinion. I would like to address your community about this.
I actually didn’t realize just clicking the email link would activate, but I also sent him a PM:
Quote:Hi David,
Welcome to the forum. We have no problem discussing your situation and issues, as long as it can meet our objectives here of ultimately help (somebody) re-engage with the church in a healthy way. All things must lead toward a healthy relationship – regardless of individual belief. I’m only sending this because as I’m sure you can imagine at times we get people that don’t seem to grasp our mission, and their detraction ultimately requires strong moderation/banning.

GuestHe now has an introductory post, I didn’t approve it. What do y’all think? September 21, 2012 at 12:24 am #259723Anonymous
GuestI deleted it. It was a cut and paste post that he simultaneously posted on a bunch of sites he thinks will support his fight against the Church to not be disciplined. His post confirmed to me the impressions I got from MormonThink, and I didn’t see any possible way for it to be productive here. I also don’t want to be seen as aligned with his efforts in ANY way – and he is asking for formal backing of his position and endorsement / support in his efforts. He literally is asking sites to side with him against the Church.
Right after I deleted it I realized I should have moved it to the Parking Lot so everyone else can see it. Sorry, everyone.
Brian, can you see deleted posts and move them to be seen by this group? If everyone wants to activate it again, I’ll accept that – but I personally will be brutally honest about what he says in it. In summary, it will be something like:
Quote:Seriously, dude?
Then it will go downhill from there.
I will send him a PM explaining why I deleted the post (something simple like, “We have no interest in fighting the LDS Church in any way.”) and telling him he can read our posts, get a sense of how we discuss things (including the most recent thread about MormonThink itself) and letting him know we would be happy to have his participation if he can follow the rules and guidelines of the site. Honestly, I think he will have no interest or ability to do that, but it’s worth a shot.

GuestI read it and I remember at the end he mention his post was deleted from LDS.net. I’m sure this action will in his mind say that we are not really interested in the truth (what he thinks he is sharing) but there is no way to see eye to eye with everyone. GuestIf it was a cut and paste from another site, can it be cut and pasted back into the moderator section to be read? September 21, 2012 at 1:48 am #259727Anonymous
GuestThat’s an idea, but I’m not going to the other sites he listed. I swore off most of them a few years ago.

GuestPerhaps it was similar to this…
Quote:Hello All.
I believe many of you have heard my name this past few days. Since last Sunday I have both been in contact with the press and have also attempted to reach out to the LDS church to make a compromise. My philosophy on that is written in a blog, which can be found again from the link on the MormonThink site under “What’s New”.
As I have indicated on the Tuesday entry, I tried to work with the church, and my leaders have completely ignored me. Thus, I’m taking my fight to the media, and there, hope to encourage the LDS church to repeal their decision to discipline me over my free speech.
MormonThink will stay put. And if I can help it, I will remain a member of record as managing editor. I hope the LDS church can open the tent bigger. A diverse view of its history, doctrines and foundation will serve it better than a narrowly defined, regimented policy against thinking persons. After all, it itself cannot even decide where it stands officially on why it denied the priesthood to the blacks, whether or not the entire or any single group of Amerindians are Lamanites or just the other race that was here already. If they can change their press releases and Book of Mormon introductions to reflect their own lack of understanding (a.k.a ignorance) then I believe the membership tent can be widened to include members who contribute to sites like MormonThink. We really aren’t any more threat to them than FARMS or Richard Bushman who acknowledge many of the same issues. We just don’t get a royalty or paycheck for doing it.

GuestI trust your judgement. Sounds like he was looking for publicity more than support. September 21, 2012 at 4:05 am #259730Anonymous
GuestYeah, Heber, that looks like what he posted. The line in particular that pushed me to delete it was the one about taking his fight to the media. October 3, 2012 at 12:06 am #259731Anonymous
GuestI may be stirring the pot with raising the issue on TRQ7 again…sorry, I couldn’t help it. I think the devil made me do it
😈 , because I’m associating myself with you apostates. (jk)October 3, 2012 at 2:17 am #259732Anonymous
GuestI agree he’s just looking for celebrity and to gather support for his cause, not to help people (even himself, really) to stay LDS. Does FARMS really get a paycheck for apologetics from the church? -
