I liked the W&T post Bill made and the discussion here on the site…but it kinda bugs me he just posts the link and is gone. He hasn’t stayed to be part of any of the discussion. He isn’t seeking support, or offering support, or joining a discussion. He just posts a link and is gone. His stuff doesn’t offend or go against the mission.
But I guess if he is not going to join the discussion, I don’t know if I care to respond to his posts. I’ll just skip over them unless someone else in the thread prompts me with a thought or question I should respond to.
Anyone else have thoughts for me to consider about his links?
I wish he was more like HG that will give a link, but stay around to give some comments around it.
Should we send him a PM to ask him to do that?
I’m in favor of letting him know we will start filtering out his links if he won’t join the discussion?
Help me see better how I should view his stuff…I know we’ve talked about it before. What do you all think?
I never comment on his posts for that exact reason, frankly. I like having his stuff here, since it does serve our mission.
I am with you. Like Ray I have quit responding. I also feel like he takes a bit of advantage of us. Yes his stuff is still within our mission, but I feel like we are free advertising for him. You mention Hawkgrrl. I rarely see her post her own posts. They get bumped up because of one of us. Then she joins in. I see a difference. She also participates in other conversations not related to her work. True she isn’t as addicted as I am, but her input feels more genuine to me. I feel like Bill is just driving his work through us.
I know I am harpingbut I thought we were going to move his podcast thread down to media. We told churchistrue he couldn’t always use us as a launch to drive things. I really think Bill’s needs to move that way. I also am a touch worried about where Bill is headed. He didn’t post it here, which I appreciate, but he has been enjoying his last scuffle with FAIR, but I worry how the roads will continue and how they affect us. We often pointed out that John Dehlin didn’t really post here. Bill doesn’t either, he just promotes.

thanks mom3. If everyone feels ok, I will move his podcast thread down to media. Next time he posts a link with no discussion, I will move it to the parking lot. If he actually notices and responds…I’m happy to move it back but my guess is that he isn’t even looking…so it won’t be an issue when it gets moved.
Happy to take others’ feedback on handling it different, but if no one else has a strong opinion, I’ll proceed that way to move his advertising away.

I try not to post my own stuff unless I really have StayLDS in mind for it, and if my stuff does get posted by someone else I sometimes don’t know for a little while because I don’t read through each thread. It just depends on the subject line. Actually, funny thing about Bill is that I think he does that at W&T also (where he originally posted that). He’s a contributor there, not a perma, and I edited his post quite a bit (mostly just the writing – clarity & grammar – and format). But then he didn’t really stick around to have the discussion. So I’ve mostly done that part too.
I’m not sure why some bloggers do the hit & run, but it’s not uncommon. For me, I like the discussion as much as doing the post.

Apparently…so does HG!😆 I wish I was more like HG, too. Maybe a male version? Alas, she is far better at thinking on her feet and much more articulate than I am. On task, like others I don’t comment on Bill’s posts because he doesn’t, and they are generally links to his podcast and I don’t have time (or much inclination, frankly) to listen to podcasts – and I have no inclination to pay for a podcast. I do see a clear difference between his posts and HG’s, and I see a difference between Churchistrue – CIS always joins the discussion.
I’m fine with moving the thread, etc.
Yes, they should be moved. I have a soft spot towards Bill because when he started up we had a phone conversation where he was very compassionate listening to my story. I do not disagree with any of the points made here, yet I still wish to give him the benefit of the doubt. Just my $.02
