The problem I see with Libertarians, is just like the other two major parties, they can tend to become “extreme” as well. Example – if the government has no right to make laws restricting ones freedom of smoking pot (which i agree with) than the government has no right to make laws making meth illegal (not sure I can go that far).

The problem as I see it is not that we make meth legal but that we are unwilling to let individuals deal with the consequences of its usage. Many that want to legalize drugs want to be libertarians in their use, but socialist regarding the consequences. If you really did it right you would charge drug users significantly higher insurance premiums. You would kick them to the curb when they showed up at the emergency room. This is the flaw with this part of libertarian philosophy (I am a libertarian). The consequences of individual choices can be brutal and are we willing as a society to let a certain portion of the population implode and do nothing about it.

I hated the two-party system for years, but finally decided that it’s not too bad if the country can roll along somewhere between the pidgeon-holed poles, bouncing back and forth like a pinball as the democraps and republiguns manage, despite their best intentions, to keep the country somewhere in the middle of the road, where, according to a prominent Texas politician, is full of white lines and dead armadillos. Being somewhere in the middle has kind of worked for us, though, and if at times you get shaky listening to hell-in-a-handbasket predictions “if Obama has his way”, just shock your system equally extremic with tales of the war-mongers still at it keeping our country slave to the black gold. My political awareness waxes and wanes, and I admit to a good deal of both ignorance and apathy, but I still think I’m old enough and shrewd enough to see and sense insincerity and plastic promises, and I see these, almost completely, among our esteemed elected officials and candidates in every camp. Still, they are our leaders and we should respect them and the office they represent… except, of course Obama, because it is always fashionable to trash the president.

And… since we’re disclosing voting records… let it be known that I didn’t vote for Obama and I didn’t vote for McCain (though I too found Sarah sexy and appealing). I also did NOT vote for the Libertarian, but cast my big Independent vote for “None of the Above”, feeling so extreme in my independent views and ability to leave those ovals blank.

Only a handful of countries have a two party system – the USA and Australia do. England, Ireland, New Zealand etc have moved away from it. Most European countries don’t have it.

Japan though, pretty much has a one party system – Liberal Democrats in almost permanent power.
