I didn’t find much on the email search but I did find hits on the parts of the email addresses before the ‘@’

GuestI think if they try another account attempt we should block by IP. September 10, 2018 at 10:51 pm #331347Anonymous
GuestI agree. I haven’t done that in the past just because IPs change often. There’s the unlikely scenario where an ISP issues an IP, we block it, then the ISP assigns the IP to a new person that has good intentions coming here… and the person we blocked gets a new IP and tries again.
The later is much more statistically probable that the former. Banning an IP isn’t a perfect solution but sometimes that is the only recourse.

GuestI chicken out and leave them for you Nibbler. I get suspicious too often. Thanks for catching them. September 11, 2018 at 2:51 pm #331349Anonymous
GuestGood job. Honestly, if I had found what you did, I would have banned them by username, email address, and IP. I am fine with seeing if they try again, but I also am fine with blocking the email address and usernames. September 12, 2018 at 12:39 pm #331350Anonymous
GuestI know mostly home users have dynamic IP addresses and they do change often. In fact, back in the day when I had DSL I purposely changed by IP address all the time just by turning off the modem and turning it back on. Nowadays I have Spectrum internet and my IP never changes, and in fact they won’t change it even by request. If you check my home IP from where I usually post it will give you a small place in northern Pennsylvania, which is where the actual cable comes from and where the “hub” is but I live in a small place in New York about 10 miles away from there. Here’s where the issue came in and why I know they won’t change it: That small place in PA is in a different television market area so if I sign up for something like Hulu Live I don’t get my local channels that are in NY and about 30 miles away, I get PA channels that are 60 miles away and don’t do my news/weather/sports. And Hulu’s (or DirecTV Now’s) way of knowing where you are is IP address – and they won’t do it another way even when they clearly know my billing address. And I also post from work sometimes, which is another story entirely (and also shows up on locators as quite a distance away). I know, I just told you a bunch of stuff none of you care about – I’m just saying I would have (and have) done what Curt says and blocked the whole shebang. In this particular case two different (probably disposable) emails were used, and I do recognize that for some (and maybe some more savvy people) IPs do change. I think you’re fine NIbbler, and I don’t have a problem with how you handled it and it does appear as though they gave up. I do think sometimes blocking IP is necessary.

GuestThanks for addressing this. I agree with how it was handled. -
