I say it is likely. Because I have seen aliens but I have not seen God. Maybe they are one and the same, and that is OK with me.

I love those kind of shows too (Ancient Aliens, etc.). Unfortunately, they’re just about as provable as the magic theories of God. I am totally open to God and Angels being advanced beings. “Aliens” just means “not originating from Earth.” So yeah, God is an “alien” in that regard.

That’s just the thing. God is an advanced being. He’s an alien, because he did not originate from this planet. He is from another place and dimension. I’ve often looked at the second coming of Christ as being an alien invasion where the wicked don’t stand a chance against these advanced beings.

The only thing we were missing is in these analogies is that these advanced beings are perfect in knowledge, power and all other things. It’s only magical until we understand it. Then it’s just reality.

What a fun thread! I love that this kind of thread can happen here. Nobody shutting anybody else down. Everybody just grinning and tossing out thoughts.

Hmmm? Puts a whole new wrinkle in the remake V series that I’m starting to watch? I like it.

PS – I loved the old V series, kind of had a crush on Christie Alley growing up. — hope the new one is just as good.

Well, I guess I kind of was thinking of the NEW Christie Alley character too. I don’t know her name, but, she’s hot! (I got to be careful now that jwald is lurking around here. 🙂 )

To get back on track —- there was a great discussion on NOM about the Virgin Mary story. I have no problems at all whether one wants to believe in a virgin conception or a literal physical union. The whole virgin thing really is not an issue for me – I just always believed it was the aliens (gods) who came down and used some form of advanced artificial insemination technique. I mean, that kind of stuff, “immaculate conception,” happens all the time nowadays. It certainly is feasible and works with what JS taught and believed about the cosmos. Not sure I could get away with talking like this in church but certainly JS would find it an interesting possibility.

cwald, that is exactly the angle I take when trying to explain why I don’t believe in sexual intercourse and pregnancy in the here-after. It’s much easier for people to understand if they realize we’re getting to that point (at least, to the point where it’s quite easy to conceptualize) even here on earth. Why in the world would we think God is limited to what we know here?

There are SO any applications of that concept now that were unimaginable even a few decades ago – which also makes me MUCH more charitable toward people who believed only what they could imagine. We’re not that different even now, really.

Someone’s beaten you to that idea, Brian –

In The Divine Invasion, Philip K. Dick asks: What if God–or a being called Yah–were alive and in exile on a distant planet? How could a second coming succeed against the high technology and finely tuned rationalized evil of the modern police state? The Divine Invasion “blends Judaism, Kabalah, Zoroastrianism, and Christianity into a fascinating fable of human existence” (West Coast Review of Books).

    Cwald,

The new V series is alright – better than Earth Final Conflict, but still suffers from cliches. Alright, but not amazing, if you see what I mean.

i have studied the alien ufo phenomena as far as I am able from what is available on the net. we don’t have to look too far from Mormon scripture to support the belief of life elsewhere in the universe.

Case in point are verses from the Pearl of Great Price in the book of Moses as shown below:

    chapter 7:29 – 30

“29 And Enoch said unto the Lord: How is it that thou canst weep, seeing thou art holy, and from all eternity to all eternity ?

30 And were it possible that man could number the particles of the earth, yea, millions of earths like this, it would not be a beginning to the number of thy creations; and thy curtains are stretched out still; and yet thou art there, and thy bosom is there; and also thou art just; thou art merciful and kind forever;”

    Also Moses 1:35 states:

“But only an account of this earth, and the inhabitants thereof, give I unto you. For behold, there are many worlds that have passed away by the word of my power. And there are many that now stand, and innumerable are they unto man; but all things are numbered unto me, for they are mine and I know them.”

Some of you have some neat ideas regarding theories relating to man`s origin but what is lacking in the alien – ufo phenomena literature is explanations for how the planet earth got here.

We do have the genesis basis for how we got here (our planet earth) but again the Pearl of Great Price comes to the rescue for another explanation that keeps the so-called theories of evolution and creationism from conflicting with each other found in the book of Abraham:

    Chapter 3:24 – 25

    “24 And there stood one among them that was like unto God, and he said unto those who were with him: We will go down, for there is space there, and we will take of these materials, and we will make an earth whereon these may dwell;

25 And we will prove them herewith, to see if they will do all things whatsoever the Lord their God shall command them;”

Consider the analogy of planet earth being a wooden desk. The earth has been stated as being 3.5 billion years old.The creation as in the scriptures states it took 6 days (if you consider what it says in Abraham 3:4 that God`s time or reckoning being that a day unto God is one thousand of our earth years – the earth may have taken 6000 earth years to create).

You can take wood from a tree that is say 20 years old (it`s materials) and make a desk that will take 2 days to make. Thus the desk is only one month old a month after it`s creation. Consider this with the earth. The earth itself could very well have been created by materials that are 3.5 billion years old but in reality (in my humble estimation) planet earth is just 13000 years old.

(6000 earth years for the creation, 1000 earth years for God`s day of rest, and then 6000 earth years(since that Lord`s day of rest from his creation (or mankind`s history since Adam and Eve) = 13000 earth years)

So… If god was an alien, where did his planet come from? Was it also colonized by another alien/god, or did god/alien life evolve there?

Either way, I can’t see how this theory would come much closer to telling us where we came from. At best, it would require us to look into the history of one other planet to determine our genesis.

Actually Mormonism has been surprisingly far-sighted in regard to alien life compared to other pre-20th century religions. Even if the Kolob thing is odd. Nice hymn though, apart from the “no end to race” bit”.

Yeah, I love “If you Could Hi to Kolob” Great tune, and a great message. I have my youth sunday school class sing it often.

this thread immediately made me think of a religion I stumbled across about 10 years ago called the Raelien movement. I read their main literature and was shocked to find it reads pretty much like the Joseph Smith first vision story only instead of God paying him a visit it was aliens. Of course they are big on free love and wife swapping, though, so it’s not for everyone.
