I totally do #2 and #4 on Valoel’s list every week! I have to say that it has gotten me through church many a Sunday. I also enjoy attending other types of religious services when I can (which isn’t that often), not instead of ours, but usually when I’m on vacation or something. It gives me some interesting contrast to consider. We also invite another family from the ward over for Sunday dinner after church about once per month, and we try to invite someone new each time. It has also given us more to keep interested at church.
I have also found that I’m not that excited about new callings any more. I’ve done almost everything there is over the last 20 years. It’s not that I don’t do what I’m asked – I really do. It’s just that I don’t find that much personal growth through them, or less than I used to.
Is this just a mid-life crisis? I kind of think so. I used to hate the social aspect of church and never participated in the majority of it, but now it’s really keeping me going.
