GuestIt’s probably obvious from the text they used for the activation justification (it’s all identical) but all these accounts were requested from the same IP address. 96.32.227.175 everstarthome
96.32.227.175 fatfaceonaladder
96.32.227.175 glueylouey
96.32.227.175 llamamama
I accidentally approved two of them before catching on. Maybe they got antsy while waiting on approval and fired off several attempts, maybe it’s a red flag.
I went ahead and approved all four and sent a PM to them:
Subject: Same person behind each username?
Text:
Quote:I noticed that the account justification text was the same for each of four recently requested accounts (everstarthome, fatfaceonaladder, glueylouey, llamamama). I suspect the requests came from the same person. We would prefer it if you contributed from just one username to prevent confusion. Is there one account you favor over the others? If so let me know which one and we’ll take care of things on our end.
Also, just so you know, your very first post on StayLDS requires moderator approval. This is something that’s done for all new accounts to help site admins filter out spammers. After your first post is approved all subsequent posts will not require approval before appearing in the forums.
Thanks.
I figure we can delete the three accounts that they don’t intend to use. I’d hate for someone else to come along and request the handle fatfaceonaladder and not be able to use it because someone else that isn’t using it beat them to it.
Note: I only mentioned that the account justification text led me to believe that it was the same person. I purposely didn’t mention the identical IP address. I don’t have reason to believe that this person is up to no good but at the same time I don’t want to tell them
everything; meaning if they did intend to maintain multiple accounts I want a way of knowing about it even if they create several accounts using different justification text. March 24, 2016 at 3:50 pm #310254Anonymous
GuestDefinitely something to watch. Thanks nibbler. March 25, 2016 at 6:09 pm #310255Anonymous
GuestWas the justification text solid, or was it iffy? This might be a sincere person, but it might be a spammer. we need to keep a close eye on it. I say we ban three of the usernames (but not by IP address), keep the most normal sounding one, and see if we get a response from that one. If there is no response in a week, we can ban by IP address.
Make sense?

GuestHere’s the justification text: Quote:I’ve been LDS all my life, I love the Book of Mormon. I don’t always love church for various reasons. This forum looks like a good place to get support and give back.
Fairly solid. I haven’t heard back on any of the PMs. For now I’m inclined to wait for a response, let them decide which handle to use. If they never respond, which is looking more and more likely, we can delete all four accounts after some time has passed.

GuestGood catch Nibbler. April 3, 2016 at 4:01 am #310259Anonymous
GuestAnd the winner is – envelope please – llamamama. I deleted the other accounts, and sent her a pm stating I had done so and why. I included a friendly warning that we frown on multiple accounts for the same user and please don’t do that anymore. The intro post seems sincere, but I have no special Jedi power of discernment there. (Jedi powers can be very much like gifts of the Spirit it turns out.) April 4, 2016 at 11:12 am #310260Anonymous
GuestThanks for taking care of that DJ. I’m stillreeling from the flu. April 5, 2016 at 3:02 am #310261Anonymous
