GuestGentlemen – I must say a kind farewell to you all. I have tried to response to posts here for the last month, and I just cannot do it. I can no longer do the “mental gymnastics” and “tongue-biting” and “eggshell walking” necessary to stay within the guidelines and the purpose of the forum. Out of respect for Brian and Ray, and the rest of you who are trying to hang on, I will just say goodbye and thank you for your support and insight and spirit that you’ve shared over the last six months or so. I will lurk a little bit off and on, and perhaps in the future I will be in position to participate again. Until then, best of luck to each of you on your personal journey to find god. GuestThanks Cwald. I have always appreciated your input. I also understand how you are feeling right now and for your honesty. Sincerely, Bridget

GuestI’ll miss you, friend. I have enjoyed and appreciated your contributions and the opportunity to get to know you over time. You have a wonderful heart, and I hope you find peace in whatever form it must take for you – and I hope you drop a comment here now and then in your lurkdom. God bless you in all you do.

GuestMe too Cwald — you were the first person to respond to me when I posted my initial post and angst and problems about a year ago. And I appreciated it very much. I hope we see you again, and I’m glad you’ve left the door open; who knows how we will feel about anything after time passes….take care, and PM me anytime. GuestI’ll miss your posts. I wish you luck in whatever you get up to, and “live long and prosper”!

GuestWell this lady is sad and will miss your imput. I hope to hear a lot from you on NOM. I understand your position and feel it in many ways. This past conference has really shaken up my thinking and it is getting harder to try and find the good amongst the hurt and pain. Bless you. October 31, 2010 at 8:05 am #236486Anonymous

Cwald, your views are always very thought provoking for me. Thanks for your contributions and I hope after a break and some time that if you wish to get back involved in the conversation you always feel welcome to do so.October 31, 2010 at 9:02 pm #236487Anonymous

I saw some of your posts on the New Order Mormon forum and wondered if you would ever come back and post here too anymore. I think I understand how you feel to some extent, most of the people here seem so optimistic and patient about the Church that sometimes I feel bad like I’m raining on their parade with some of my negative “glass half-empty” opinions about the Church, just not enough to stop posting yet. Anyway, I appreciated your comments while you were here and wish you luck.

GuestIf we were all happy-go-lucky all the time, there’d be nothing to talk about. All journeys have their own trajectory. I wish you the best, and I hope to hear from you again! I’ve enjoyed discussions with you. November 1, 2010 at 6:08 pm #236489Anonymous
GuestI have to admit I’m a little perplexed. I post occasionally on NOM and I realize it has its own purpose. I also recognize all of these forums are important regardless of how they fall on the bloggernacle/DAMU scale. But does anyone get the sense that people are slowly migrating from here to NOM, while others are slowly migrating from NOM to FLAK, and from FLAK to exmormon.net? That seems like the logical progression (NOM, FLAK, exmormon, etc.) if you really want to complain about the Church and just how wrong you think it is. Personally, I don’t care much for these other sites you mention mostly because of all the bitter ex-Mormon religion-hating atheists that frequent them and some of the unhealthy hatred of the LDS Church and disrespect for TBMs. I get frustrated with TBMs sometimes too but I really don’t think they know any better or mean any harm most of the time and I doubt that ridiculing them so much is ever going to help much of anything; it’s just as likely to confirm their suspicions that “apostates” are supposedly evil sinners deceived by Satan.

GuestSteve, I think that might be the natural progression for some, but it isn’t a universal by any stretch – and there is much more fluidity than many realize. I think people generally settle somewhere – wherever they are most comfortable settling in the long run. I do believe, however, that those with whom they associate most really do have an influence on where they settle – which is why I believe there is a need for a site like this that acknowledges the issues but strives to deal with them constructively and positively and in a solution-focused manner.

GuestI’m limiting my time here because I’m pissed at what MY CHURCH has become and what it has evolved into. I’m pissed about it, and I find it very difficult to listen to arguments and discussions that sound more like apologies and excuses — rather than just talking about the way it is. I have no problem with the glass half full approach – as long as one doesn’t try to deny or make excuses or do “mental gymnastics” about the empty half. I just want to discuss the issues openly and honestly – and sometimes I feel like that approach (the way I approach it) goes against the mission of this forum. GuestI started at NOM years ago. Now I’m mostly here. Cwald, I have appreciated your contribution. Maybe someday you will be back. And we can always use people here who keep it real. As Ray said once (see my signature line), there are no academic issues. We want to have empathy and compassion for the real damage that is done by ill-considered church structures, teachings, and practices.
