GuestSo yesterday I attended a special SM at the stake center. It was announced last week and 6 different wards in are stake were invited. We were told that this SM would deal with leadership and ward boundary changes. Needless to say everyone from our ward was expecting this as our ward numbers were huge (600+ on the roles, 400+ weekly attendance, 104 elders, 58 youth, 150+ primary). It was interesting to have 1000+ people at a SM. They had 12 priests prepare and bless the sacrament and 30 deacons pass. It truly was something to see. My DS was one of the deacons and mentioned that it was a lot of fun to be part of.
Anyway, after the new ward boundaries were announced (2 wards dissolve, 1 created, and the rest changed in some form or another) the Stake presidency spoke about accepting change, giving the new wards a chance, and generally trying to abate any negative concerns that people may have regarding the changes.
The thing that made many in the congregation chuckle was when it was announced that the closing hymn would be “I’ll go where you want me to go”. I must admit that even someone as jaded as me found it funny.
🙂 On a personal note: Our family will be in the newly created ward and our new Bishop is from our old ward and knows me and the issues I have (surprisingly he was one of only a small select people in the ward that I actually viewed positively). I actually have a measure of hope going into this ward and that is a good thing.
Perhaps I’ll even accept a calling

🙂 A little “on the nose”, don’t you think?

GuestHilarious song choice – and a good development with your Bishop. Thanks for sharing this with us.

GuestGreat song choice. Hopefully things will go well with your new ward. The ward or branch can make a big difference in making it a pleasure or pain to go to church. -
