    Welcome Brian.

I like the thoughts shared already.

I also took a break from the Book of Mormon because of bitterness & only recently have started reading here & there from it.

I’ve found some parables & scriptures helpful, but I’m more selective & told my husband I’d love to continue reading scriptures every night with the kids, but I don’t want to read the Book of Mormon cover to cover… but rather, pick a scripture (preferably one we agree on) & share a little thought. This has worked for us.

I too see the Book of Mormon more as

    1. In some ways, inspirational fiction

    2. A reminder of important biblical scriptures (since some are practically identical)

    3. Not the most correct book (esp. given all of the prejudice)

Still… there’s some good stuff in there… like:

    -“Line upon line”

    -The parable/dream of Lehi – rod=word of God=spirit

-The same spirit that dwells in a person in life will dwell afterlife (makes sense to me – energy-wise)

-I love the story (even if it’s fiction) about Christ loving the children & the children being encircled by angels’ love

-The idea that charity is the pure love of Christ & it alone will never fail (all else will fail – including prophets, churches etc.)

-(From the Temple: the idea that Adam & Eve represent us, which implies to me that they are more symbolic than actual figures)
