Finding Darwin’s God by Kenneth R. Miller

Finding Darwin’s God was written by a man who is both a scientist and a believer (non-LDS faith tradition). This fascinating book is well written and easy to comprehend, even for the non-scientist. Using logic and evidence, Dr. Miller argues that science and God can co-exist. He refutes both the believers who deny evolution, and scientists who deny the existence of God.

I read this book several years ago as part of a BYU course on Religion and Evolution, taught in the Biology department where evolution is basically taught as a fact (unlike the Religion department). This book was instrumental in challenging my world-view at the time that prophets were all-knowing and infallible. While I did not necessarily accept all of Dr. Miller’s beginning assumptions about God either (having a more orthodox LDS view of the Godhead at the time), I found the book very helpful in my own quest to reconcile God and Science, even though some of my conclusions were ultimately different from Dr. Miller’s conclusions.

I highly recommend this book and would love to discuss it with anyone interested. I should probably read it again sometime soon, as I am now at a different place along my faith journey.
