GuestThis from Deseret News today: . I like the Christmas Devotional, and honestly don’t care if others speak because the music is the best part and I tire of Pres. Monson’s repetitive and sometimes pointless stories (I’m betting he will speak anyway). However, I do think the change is interesting given that we have a relatively healthy first presidency. I bet I can find a member who believes the change is due to a revelation!http://www.deseretnews.com/article/865591807/LDS-Church-alters-Christmas-devotional-tradition.html ” class=”bbcode_url”> http://www.deseretnews.com/article/865591807/LDS-Church-alters-Christmas-devotional-tradition.html December 5, 2013 at 5:17 pm #277519Anonymous
GuestFwiw, I love Pres. Monson’s stories, because I think I understand the point he is trying to make – and I think it’s a really important one. Having said that, I agree that some members will chalk up any changes to revelation. Whatever floats their boats.

GuestI’m at the point where I celebrate any and all changes – just because it lessens the chance of them calcifying into expectations, policy, and the “unwritten order of things.” December 5, 2013 at 7:41 pm #277521Anonymous
GuestQuote:In 1993, the church’s president, Ezra Taft Benson, who was 94, was unable to attend for health reasons. Neither was his second counselor, President Thomas S. Monson, who was ill.
“Somehow, I made it,” joked President Gordon B. Hinckley, then the first counselor in the First Presidency.
I still miss President Hinckley sometimes. Maybe it’s the memory of a simpler faith, but I really enjoyed his leadership.

I agree. I wonder, though, why bother with a press release? Just do it?

GuestI think there are a few good reasons for telling people — 1) communication — to tell people when time honored traditions are changing and 2) to promote the event. December 6, 2013 at 3:19 pm #277516Anonymous
GuestI wonder who the woman speaker will be.
