GuestI remembered earlier today a comment or two in another thread that had alternate verses to the song, “Follow the Prophet”. I thought it might be fun to have a thread for alternate verses. As an admin note, I know how easy it could be to go a bit off the rails and end up with harsh, derisive, condemnatory verses. I get it, but that isn’t what we do here. Therefore, there only is one core rule for this thread:
Make the verses humorous or craft them as commentary on an issue without making them personal or ridiculing. Factual is fine; mocking or belittling is not.

GuestAdam was a prophet, started human life. First he didn’t listen, then followed his wife.
His view would have stopped us all from being born.
Listen to your wife to see a joyful morn.
Noah was a prophet, told to build an ark.
Starting over once again was pretty stark.
Noah got so dunk he passed out in his tent.
Not a good example of a sober gent.
Moses was a prophet, killed Egyptian guard.
Fled into the desert. Life was very hard.
Angered all his people, then he finally won.
Couldn’t enter Jordan. Pride left it undone.
Jonah was a prophet, tried to run away.
God had different plans and threw him in the bay.
Finally, went begrudgingly with message he must tell.
Ended up repenting so he wouldn’t go to Hell.

GuestThank you for your creative verses! That gave me a good laugh! Do you think my kids’ primary teachers will be mad at me if they start singing these in primary?!

GuestProbably not a great idea.

Instead, have them sing “Swallow the Prophet” whenever they sing about Jonah.

Ha ha! I’m highly tempted to do that!

GuestYour versus remind me of a preview for a new Sampson movie coming out. It really made me wonder how they could make an uplifting story out of that. All/most of the biblical heroes are flawed but most of them end on a victorious note. -
