A friend has awful netnanny software on his wifi – no idea why, he has no kids – turns out it blocks this forum..not sure why… Filthy words? Not many. Forum software? Maybe.

Maybe because of the “Connection Is Not Secure” thing. The netnanny stuff probably filters out any site in that state.

I’m seeing an error that leads me to believe it’s because the certificate for the site is registered to one domain and traffic is being redirected to a different unregistered domain, making the certificate invalid.

Probably for being “untested” or “unregistered” in the system. The blocker usually says why.

My friend is pretty computer illiterate. I’ve told him to lose the netnanny and get a proper firewall instead (my laptop got a Trojan through his WiFi)…

The netnanny is highly annoying – it filters Facebook and Twitter (which I partly understand), but also Memory Alpha (the Star Trek wiki) and certain similar websites which are hardly full of filth and hate speech.

My suspicion is that it’s the website host in this case.

It doesn’t say what category it’s under? If he opens up his Parental Controls, he should see specifics as to what field is being blocked, and will probably be able to overwrite it.

He can’t open up his parental controls… That’s the thing. He’s got a bit of deafness and high functioning autism, tech’s not his thing at all. He won’t let me do it and he won’t explain any of this to his brother in law. (He was being bilked by someone once, and wouldn’t even let us know the name, it was like some bizarre party game. Even a friend of ours who is a retired lawyer, managed to help him a bit but couldn’t get him to explain the situation properly. He obviously hated the man who was swindling him but wouldn’t let us stop him).

I thought this was worth flagging up because some visitors might be being blocked from visiting the forum.

It’s because this site is for mature audiences only.

Good thing it isn’t for mature participants only. 😆 :P :silent:

Update: this forum is still filtered by his software, although certain other sites such as fandom.com have been “unfiltered”
