GuestIn case you weren’t in the loop and are finding it here. This is from Gospel Tangents (Rick): Quote:Ok everyone,
I spoke with Jenny & Ben and here’s what we talked about.
I’m not going to renew the website hosting fee when it comes due in Jan-Feb, so essentially the StayLDS website will fail at that point. Ben is going to post a note on StayLDS saying we’re not going to renew it in 6 months and we will open up on a new website TBA.
I’ve just purchased the domain and set up WordPress. The new website is
https://LDSfaithJourneys.org/ Currently it just has a generic WordPress page up now and Jenny is going to get it up and running. We’ll migrate what we can over to the new website. Once it is ready, we’ll announce it to everyone. Ben said there are just a few active users at StayLDS.
We’ll create a new forum, and try to get the history but the history won’t be ready right away. I plan to host a 1-2x/month podcast in addition to the forum. I’ll promote it on Gospel Tangents and see if we can generate some traffic. I appreciate all your support in this. I hope we can breathe some life back into it.

GuestI believe the current plan is to let this site go away when it comes up for renewal in Jan/Feb 2026 and to have an alternate website set up where the active people here can get reestablished. The big difference is that the new site will be owned/maintained by the Gospel Tangents group whereas this site can in theory be shut down or reclaimed by John Dehlin at any time. This move gets us out from under that gun. Plus it’s one less expense for GT to not have to pay fees for multiple sites.
I’m fuzzy on the exact details of the transition but we might consider holding off announcing on the board that the site is closing until the new site is up enough to where it can provide people a landing space. In other words, they can create an account there and start posting over there.
Once the other site is up, we can add a stickied post to all the boards (Introductions, Support, General Discussion, etc.) to let people know of the imminent closure, then once the small group of active posters have transitioned to the new board we can place this board in a read only mode so that no new posts are being made.
Jan/Feb 2026 rolls around, the bill doesn’t get paid, and the hosting service turns out the lights.

GuestNow that leaves the question… what happens to all the posts/content here? It’s my understanding that the new site won’t have the StayLDS historic posts at first. It will be a clean slate. After some time has passed we might see some of the historic posts here appear on the new site as a read only archive. I think the reasoning is to allow some time to pass to avoid any concerns over ownership of the posts.
I’m not a lawyer but I think that the people that posted the messages “own” their own posts but this is in an effort avoid any “wait, that’s
mycontent” issues, so there will be a buffer period where historic posts won’t be available once this site goes down. I wouldn’t advertise the plan for the historic posts. If asked about them, I’d leave it at, “We’re working on it.” or, “We’re looking into it.”

GuestThank you Nibbler! I am good with that. I have long felt that the “writing was on the wall” for StayLDS. This plan provides an opportunity for it to not just end but maybe transform into something a little different.

GuestThanks for the heads up! Like Roy, I have felt for a bit the writing has been on the wall. I’ll miss it, but it also appears we’re not being left high and dry. May 30, 2025 at 12:36 am #346039Anonymous
GuestThanks for all of the efforts to make this happen. I really like the current plan. -
