GuestFWIW… Back in the ETB era, it was common for people to try to use ‘grateful’ in lieu of ‘proud’. Since that time, that’s what I’ve tried to do as well. I’ve never regretted it. Most of the time, I feel that saying “I’m grateful” is more accurate to what I feel. It doesn’t bother me in the slightest to hear either expression, and I’m certainly not going to castigate a Church member for tying to use ‘grateful’ or even advocating the use of it instead of ‘proud’. GuestAm I imagining it or do the 1st pres usually speak 3 times in conference? Only 2 talks from Elder Uchtdorf seems like a drought. April 7, 2014 at 10:17 am #283146Anonymous

I had thought the same thing. A quick check (clicking all conference talks on Uchtdorf’s lds.org page) reveals sometimes there are three, sometimes only two. This conference I wouldn’t have minded hearing from any one of the FP again.

you all will want to skip it. It’s a classic message about how opposition proves truth. It doesn’t, but it’s a common paradigm. We aren’t right because we are opposed; we aren’t wrong because we are opposed. Lots of things both right and wrong have been opposed.
All through that talk I couldn’t help but think “truth is opposed by error, error is opposed by truth, there must be opposition in ALL things.”
I loved hearing these words from Pres. Monson in his last remarks:
Quote:May we be kind and loving to those who do not share our beliefs and our standards.

Was this in the Sunday afternoon session? I’ll drink to that message!

Yep, part of his brief closing remarks.
FWIW, all the sessions and individual talks are up on the general conference Youtube channel.
