GuestI hope you’re not missing Sr. Wixom. It’s amazing. I can’t keep up with all the stuff, it’s very Uchtdorf like and centered on the gospel more than the church. This is a keeper. No offense intended, that was the best talk I ever heard by a sister leader, I can’t wait until it comes out in print. April 5, 2015 at 4:32 pm #297481Anonymous
GuestHuh. So. The Primary general president Rosemary Wixom started her talk by telling a story of a sister who became less active while trying to figure out what she believed; the sister read a book about Mother Teresa and faith. “She can focus on the truths she did believe, and let those truths fill her mind and heart.”
Waiting to see this talk to its end now.
Edit: OK, some stuff in her talk might not sit well with some people (like some standard Church answers, finding answers in quiet simple, assurances). But you can pick and choose some good things out of this talk. There was some particular great sentences that I think would resonate strongly with some.
Edit 2: I’m trying to remember my favorite line. It came right after the quote I already posted up above. It was something about how the sister’s testimony was burned to ashes, and all that remained was Jesus Christ. It reminded me a LOT of Chieko Okazaki for just a brief moment there and her love and focus for Christ to let her ignore some of the tougher parts of Mormon culture. Appropriate for Easter Sunday, I’d say.

GuestPres. Wisdom is next. (This is a fabulous talk. It sounds like it could have been given by someone here. This might be better than Pres. Uchtdorf’s talk.) “The Lord can only teach an inquiring mind.” As the questions grow harder, so do the answers.
“I was willing to extend courtesy to those without doubts, if they would do the same for me.”
Reference to Mother Teresa’s book. This is wonderful.
My testimony was in ashes. All that remained was Jesus Christ.
She started over, from the very beginning. “Is this the right path for me and my family.”
She had questions about HOW the Book of Mormon came to be, but she loved what was in it.
I wasn’t ready to teach yet. “We want you where you are.”
It is wonderful to get back to the essence of the Gospel.
Wow! This is amazing. One of my favorites of all time.

GuestI agree about Sr. Wixom, DJ. Perfect for our group here. Hope the general membership pay attention as well. Her encouragement are exactly what all of us here need. April 5, 2015 at 4:44 pm #297484Anonymous
GuestElder Teixeira is next. (Atonement comes from being connected to Christ. This is a very good talk.) Understanding of Jesus brings hope and leads to a desire to serve others.
Analogy of the vine. Abide in Jesus. Our purpose to have joy does not keep us from challenges that are very difficult.
Go about each day with a conviction to be joyful. Interact daily with the teachings of Christ.
A networked life can remove us from family and loved ones – making us absent even when physically present. (This is a great reminder for us, I think.)
The three online suggestions are orthodox, but they are not wrong, in essence – if we broaden them and use them as general advice to use technology to increase access to good, uplifting things.

GuestSo far a great session, I Know That My Redeemer Lives is a favorite. April 5, 2015 at 4:49 pm #297486Anonymous
GuestJose Teixeira of the Seventy is next. This talk had some good focus on Christ, but the primary mission was discussing online habits, encouraging members to use their online time to interact with the Church’s online presence (and also to put away your electronic devices and take a break for once, which…yeah, I’m guilty of not doing that, haha). “Life is not confined to a four-inch screen.”
The combined point of the talk was to turn our online habits more towards building our faith and testimony in Christ. This comes at an interesting time. The “challenge” that all the Temple Square missionaries are giving to everyone who talks to them this weekend is to use the #becausehelives social tag everywhere and share the HeLives.Mormon.Org link. They have those little blue pass along cards with the info.

GuestExcellent talk by sister Wixom (sp?)! Very positive view of the doubting experience and good example to others on how to treat doubters. As I was listening I noticed it just kept getting better. April 5, 2015 at 4:53 pm #297488Anonymous
GuestHaha, the official LDS Church Twitter already has that quote from Teixeria I mentioned up above posted on a pretty picture and uploaded on Twitter. Someone was busy during the song. April 5, 2015 at 4:56 pm #297489Anonymous
GuestBishop Causse is next. (This is a great reminder of how easy so many of us have it.) Sometimes, we take wonderful things for granted when we have them before us all the time. (Eiffel Tower example)
So many who met Jesus failed to recognize him as who he was. Do we fail to recognize our own blessings?
Apathy can limit our ability to see wonder around us. External signs and wonders are not as powerful as internal witnesses. Is the Gospel still wonderful to us? Can we still see, hear and wonder?
The key is in having new eyes. Can we remember our previous sacred experiences? Study, meditate and pray. Beware of thinking we know and have heard it all already.
Anchor faith in the plain and simple things of the Gospel. It is easy to become complacent and forget how much many sacrifice for what we take for granted.
The atonement is the perfect gift of love. I stand all amazed at the love Jesus offers me.

GuestThese European GAs seem to have it figured out. Causse might not be a home run, but it’s at least a three run triple. April 5, 2015 at 4:58 pm #297491Anonymous
GuestOld-Timer wrote:Pres. Monson is the first speaker.
New temples: Ivory Coast, Haiti and Thailand. Intent is to allow members to attend without great sacrifice of time and resources. Goal is to feel peace and spiritual connection to God.
The missionary story is touching. I love the story-telling nature of Pres. Monson’s approach. I also love that his focus in this talk is peace- not doctrine of any kind.
All good locations where many are poor and far from temples.

GuestI want to thank everyone for your thoughtful and detailed recaps yesterday. I was home alone and I DID NOT want to watch GC, but i knew my family would be asking about it. Because of your sumnaries, i was ablr to go back and only watch the talks I wanted to. Again, thanks so much   My nonbelieving and inactive son and his atheist GF are coming over later. he asked it we have to watch GC, haha. He was relieved when i told him no and I’m grateful to have a good excuse not to watch it. I’ll be eading your recaps laer again to see which talks I want to watch.
(Sorry for all the typos. I’m texting my son and typing here at the same time
Not as good at multitasking as I think.)

GuestElder Nielson is next. (This is a powerful, personal story. It is beautiful.) The parable of the Prodigal Son. What does this teach us? The father gave the son his inheritance and let him go – then he watched and waited. (That is a great, simple statement.)
Our efforts to rescue our sister pushed her away. We had to honor her adult choice and just love her.
We tried to create family events our sister and her kids could attend. We could not embrace all of her choices, but we could embrace her.
We had to be patient.
This is a beautiful talk. If everyone could approach those who struggle this way, we would be a better people – even if not everyone returns.
We learned we only could love, watch, pray and wait.
I realized in some ways I was the prodigal son. All of us are lost and need to be found. My sister and I were on the same path.

GuestFrankly I was hoping for more Easter centered talks, but I am overwhelmed with how it’s going. I don’t think those of us here could ask for more. Nielson has a big bat, too. -
