This definitely is my favorite session.

For the first time I really enjoyed elder Bednar’s talk. It was inspiring and kind of an answer to a debate I had with one of my friends. We were almost on the same page, but he explained it so simply. Highly enjoyed that. Felt the Spirit strongly in this one and the saturdaymorning session.

Yes, the arrangement of the Spirit of God was great:)

I have not watched the conference talks yet but I just got done reading BKP’s talk from Sat. On lds.org it said:

President Packer said the Lord has also revealed that the sacred powers to beget life must be protected and employed only between man and woman, husband and wife. “To misuse this power is exceeded in seriousness only by the shedding of innocent blood and denying the Holy Ghost.” Repentance can erase the effect of such transgressions.

He made a point to say; Only between man and woman (husband and wife) which was his way of reemphasizing the church does not approve of any same sex relationships. So is that saying that gay relationships (especially)are a misuse of power and are next to murder and denying the Holy Ghost? Pretty condemning to me. Even the Bible says that to those who don’t know or recognize something is wrong, it is not a sin.

So far very little mention of the Jesus and the Savior. I would also like to hear some talks about personal struggles they have had with any serious sins. Seems there was mention to just ignore the early history.

My whole family is no longer in the church but are acting more Christlike since being out of the church than when they were in the church. According to the talk about Parents being held accountable for their kids being out the church does that mean my husband and I were bad parents? We raised them in the church, taught them right from wrong but we are still condemned it seems.

But, being raised Mormon I will always care about what happens in the lds church. Guess, I will have to go read some to the favorable talks you all are mentioning.

Just read this part by Elder Bednar:

“The spirit of revelation is available to every person who receives by proper priesthood authority the saving ordinances of baptism by immersion for the remission of sins and the laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost — and who is acting in faith to fulfill the priesthood injunction to ‘receive the Holy Ghost,'” he said. “This blessing is not restricted to the presiding authorities of the Church; rather, it belongs to and should be operative in the life of every man, woman and child who reaches the age of accountability and enters into sacred covenants.”

So is this saying that people who have not entered into sacred covenants cannot recieve spirit of revelation? I sure have met alot of great people outside of the church who have the spirit of revelation with them

Bridget, you must be listening to a different version of conference than everyone else. The Savior has been mentioned constantly – FAR more than any other topic, frankly.

I don’t mean that to be snarky or sarcastic, but even for those who might not like some things that have been said, Jesus has been the central focus throughout the conference – especially the last session.

    Elder Scott:

All other things aside, I really like the examples of love between Elder Scott and his wife.

Love is the foundation of all good.

Eternity is a long time. In His time, the Lord can make all things come true for everyone.

That was a sweet testimony and tribute.

    Elder Christofferson:

The final judgment is about the result of what we become, not a list of deposits into a heavenly account.

Willingly seeking and accepting correction is an important part of repentance. We are worth the time and effort it takes to correct us.

I think it’s important to recognize or believe that God is gardening us in our current situations and preparing us for whatever lies ahead.

    We should become self-correcting.

    Elder Pratt:

This is why I never will reject all inspirational stories. This story really is cool, and I have no doubt it happened as it is being described. These types of experiences mean wonderful things to many people, and they can teach multiple lessons according to what we can take out of them.

I like the fact that he is openly describing the misinterpretation that can come from his story – that we don’t get blessed always financially for paying tithing.

Fwiw, I don’t like the insurance against divorce idea.

BN – I will agree with Ray, that this conference is certainly focused on the savior. Compared to last October, it’s night and day. Ballard’s talk was especially good, as was Urchdorfs and Bishop Burton. I don’t see a melt down coming from this conference.

HOWEVER. You are absolutely right about Bednar and BKP.

BKP got his digs in, sneaky as it was, on the whole homosexual issue. SNEAKY! Old school talk – where he mentions the the “proclamation to the World rhetoric – obviously directed towards the homosexual community” and chastity, and being next to murder in sin seriousness, practically in the same sentence as his condemnation of the those who don’t follow the WoW.

Bednar speech, IMO, was backhanded insult to NOMs and, a full on insult to those of others faiths. Yeah, like Ray said, he did talk about folks besides leaders being able to get revelation. BUT – he asterisked it first by claiming it’s reserved only for those who are “faithful” and have received the HG via a priesthood ordination by the laying on of hands.

That is insulting. But not surprising coming from Brother Bednar.

Ok, I admit I was wrong on the Savior part. I apologize. I know that most Ensigns have pictures of Christ more now and more stories on Christ.

Just listened to the first Sun. afternoon conference talk and was surprised at the re-iteration of young men getting married. It was hit hard.

My nephew is 31 now and served a mission at 19. He just broke up with his girlfriend of 3 years and since he is an only child my brother and his wife are so distraut over this. They want grandkids as they are almost 70 now. My nephew won’t talk to his parents about his personal life ever. I feel sorry for him to have to listen to these types of talks today. Laying on the guilt and pressuring anyone into marriage can result in a divorce later and then blame the church for it. Everyone is ready at a different time and mature at a different time. Too many returned missionaries marry fast because of trying to stay morally clean and don’t get to know each other enough. I wonder why they are harping on this?

Maybe I am a little more sensitive this conference, but I am getting annoyed at how often everyone has to mention how awesome and inspired the prophet is. Honestly, I’m not really enjoying this conference at all. Seems like a big commercial and collective pat on the back for the welfare program they started. Not even watching this afternoon’s session right now. Maybe i will read it later.

Specifically, president Monson’s talk encouraging people to sacrifice all that they have, even years of labor away from their family, to get to the temple really bothered me. I also sat and wondered with all the welfare talk how many hungry people we could have fed with those 115 temples he bragged about building.

    Elder Robbins:

This sounds like it might be a very good, Christ-focused talk. I like the way he is using “be” and “do” to talk about the balance with faith and works and love.

Baptism without conversion is just getting wet. (my wording)

You can’t earn checkmarks with “to be”.

It is important to teach correct principles and not demand just “doing”.

Hey, cwald, God needs you (Parenting 505) as much as you need God. 😆 😈

All of us disappoint God with our actions; we need to be patient with others as we pray that God is patient with us.

    Elder De Hoyos:

I have to concentrate to understand what he is saying. I don’t think I will be summarizing his talk. Sorry.
