I have loved the first two talks thus far. Elder Packer’s was touching and sweet and had some wonderful quotes for this site, and Elder Hallstrom’s had an absolute GOLDMINE of quotes for everyone here. I’m flying cross-country today and will miss the last of this session and the entire second one. Just fyi.
I really liked the third talk, as well. A simple, straightforward talk about love is a good thing. Elder Oaks is giving praise to dedicated Christians of many faith traditions, and he called their examples “challenging and inspiring”. Holy crap, this has been an amazing session so far.
I didn’t hear the talks today but I loved the benediction. I loved his desire for love in families and with others. From Ray’s accounts it summed up the hope of this session. Even if it didn’t it is what my heart desires. I can’t wait to listen to the talks and hope they do carry hopeful messages. Thanks for the thread. Travel safe Ray. I liked Pres Eyring’s. As I listen to him talk about having faith through trials, I think that i don’t disagree with anything he said. But the details beyond his message is that sometimes faith changes or evolves as it needs to because of trials. None of his message conflicts with that, IMO. He had a good message that I can apply to my life. Sometimes enduring can include changing ideas so one can stay and endure. Faith is an interestingly broad concept.
President Eyring has absolutely blessed me today with this talk. I am having some major trials in life right now. His talk has given me peace and a boost to keep going forward through them. :thumbup: I was trying to go listen to this mornings session on lds.org and it doesn’t work for me. It shows a ‘sign in’ place but I do not know my membship number to sign in. I love David Baxter’s voice. He could just read to me and I would feel enriched. His message was wonderful too. I know I was listening for it, but I did find several references to “the historical past” from Elder Holland, and Elder Cook talked about the vision of the tree of life and called outto those who might have fallen away. I wonder if that will continue, as I am sure they have access to the survey on why people leave and the struggles some have with some church teachings.
The only disappointing part is they aren’t really making any concessions or apologies or acknowledgements of past problems or teachings, just telling people who struggle with those things to forget about it and stay faithful. They put it back on the individual to overcome the problems, but are at least calling for the leaders and members to not judge and to be accepting and welcoming to all, no matter where we are in our journey.
I guess it is a bit of a mixed bag to me. Some messages have been inspiring, others not.

Elder Holland’s talk was the only one i heard today…i thought it was fantastic.Heber, I agree that there weren’t any concessions but what I LOVED about Elder Holland’s talk was the call to active, “first hour laborers” to knock of the mistreatment of those they see as less stalwart, contributing less, later to arrive to the field, etc. It was very much a talk about how the love of God can, does, and will extend to all, not just to those who seem to think they’ve earned it. It was a call for compassion toward rather than rejection of those who struggle, wander, waiver, or who, for whatever reason, are not presently hired and laboring. That was my takeaway anyway.
