Man, you are a young whipper-snapper! Yes, that’s the place. I used to hang out with his kids a bit. Fun place.
Tom Haws wrote:I guess I must confess it’s still confusing to me what you mean by testimony. Then again, it’s probably confusing to others when I say I have a testimony. I certainly loathe to aspire to ever believe a Latter-day Saint has an absolute leg up on a Community of Christ adherent or a Catholic or a Buddhist. Or that Joseph Smith is more significant to mankind than Pope Benedict or the Dalai Lama or Saint Francis of Assisi or Mother Teresa or the Bhudda. He’s significant to me. But that’s because I am LDS.
I think this verse is helpful:
Quote:D&C 84:61 For I will forgive you of your sins with this commandment—that you remain steadfast in your minds in solemnity and the spirit of prayer, in bearing testimony to all the world of
those things which are communicated unto you. My view is that when God reveals (or, testifies) something to us, we then have an obligation to not only follow/believe that thing, but also to share it (appropriately, which is a topic all its own). “Testimony” is the thing we must possess before we can “testify”. It’s something we “know”, even if by faith.
I have had a lot of things taught to me by the spirit. I share those things that are helpful in a Sunday School setting. That’s my testimony. Like, the Church is true— true like an arrow that is straight & functional.

Indeed!!!! That, to me, is the main reason for this forum. I have a burning testimony in my heart that does not exactly square with what I thought for 37 years (and still think, to tell the truth) is Mormonism. I know it’s different, and I know it sticks out in SS and PH meetings. And I know it’s true. But love
practicedis what’s really true. I have to speak by the spirit (sigh!). And so I am here to learn and practice and get support. March 21, 2009 at 5:46 am #215864Anonymous

GuestThanks Bridget — it’s nice to know there are other returned missionaries here — that this forum is frequented by others who have a long history with the Church in terms of commitment. I thought your story was very interesting to read. -
