I think we try too hard to figure out exactly what we are supposed to do in order to be rewarded for what we do. In other words, I think we focus on externally imposed consequences too much.
I love the idea that ALL the Law and the prophets hang on love – and that who we become is our only divine reward or punishment.
I love the Mormon idea that our ultimate reward is a condition of being (“godhood”), not a bestowed gift or sentence.
So, to answer the hypothetical, I think the twins lived their lives in order to be exactly alike. I think they got what they wanted. It is not something I would want to become (exactly like someone else), but that was their goal. Since it isn’t my goal, I don’t spend any mental or emotional capital on it – other than to explain how I feel about it here.
