GuestI have a question…have you ever been given such distressing news that you walked away from the news feeling nauseated? This happened to me the other day. It is the first time in my life, and I wondered if anyone else has experienced it before. I wonder if it means my tendencies toward depression are getting worse. Just curious. I don’t really want to talk about specifics, other than to see if others have experienced this, and how often.
This was the first time in my lifetime I ever experienced it.

GuestI have had anxiety attacks. In the biggest one to date – I experienced chest pain, and a sense of heavyness (as though my limbs were heavy). I’m not sure how much of that to ascribe to anxiety and how much could be due to shock.
I understand that sometimes people react to tramatic experiences by vomiting or fainting or wetting themselves. There could be quite the range of non-voluntary bodily responses.

GuestI think it’s very common to feel nauseated at distressing news. I’ve felt like that and for me it happens even when the news isn’t that distressing. The body can react in many different ways to trauma or difficult experiences. January 19, 2014 at 8:59 pm #279145Anonymous
GuestI distinctly remember this happening 3 times, though it’s probably happened a couple more times they just pale by comparison to the 3 worst. The last of those three times was so bad that I couldn’t even keep food down for almost a week. I think some things are just so bad that our whole bodies reject them.

GuestI have had this happen a handful of time upon getting very bad news. I don’t think it’s uncommon. January 19, 2014 at 11:38 pm #279147Anonymous
GuestI have had this happen a couple of times. The most recent was when my boss basically told me that I wasn’t needed. January 19, 2014 at 11:50 pm #279148Anonymous
GuestYes it has happened to me a few times. I would be willing to bet it is just the body responding to the stress that bad news can bring. January 20, 2014 at 5:20 am #279149Anonymous
GuestAbsolutely. Both on a personal level (Like a personal problem or a family issue) & on a global level. (Like 9/11) January 21, 2014 at 2:49 pm #279150Anonymous
