I’m glad it went well. Can You Hear the Music? is also a favorite talk of mine because it resonates with me.

I would be unable to talk on this topic. If not on the covenant path, and having some misgivings about it, I don’t think I could speak with integrity. I would ask for something like “Love at Home” or something generic like “Faithful Thinking”…and even with the latter, I would focus more on positive thinking, holding a positive outlook on the future, and faith as a motivator to action, rather than speaking on religious faith.

Sudden thought — I could possibly speak on this topic by reframing the word “Covenant Path” to mean the keeping of promises. This could branch into the role of integrity, or of keeping one’s word. Faithful Temple Covenant keepers could read the temple into the comments, with me having to necessarily go there.

I used a very generic approach. My definition of the covenant path was to use it as an adventure of self-discovery.

Starting first with trying to find God’s voice or influence in a world of noise & sometimes chaos. That’s where

Elder Uchtdorf’s talk came in and the story of “The Man at the Subway Station”.

I would like to go into more detail but, having just moved into a new ward, the last thing I want is to have someone

from the ward say, “I read a post on StayLDS & it sounds like you”. If someone really wants to see it, I can send you

a private message (PM) with attachments.

I’m glad it went well for you. That would have been a difficult topic for me. I was asked to speak a few months ago, and of course was given a GA talk to base it on. It was a topic I could handle okay without compromising myself. After a passing reference to the GA talk, I just went in my own direction. If it’s a topic on which I can draw from the gospels or from personal experience, I’m okay with it, but if they asked me to talk about temples or a host of other topics, there’s no way I could do it. I served a brief stint on the high council many years ago, and spoke regularly in that connection. I don’t think I could do that now.
