TexasRX says that he had a personal conversation with Elder Jensen who told him that GA’s get paid 95K/per year salary.
Plus expenses I assume. Do you think the apostles get more?
I have heard that they have a generous expense account for travel, food, hotel etc, as well as security and health benefits and tuition wavers for family members.
I would think Apostles and the Prohpet would get considerably more “living wage” than a GA. I have heard up to 800,000. Of course, I have also heard that they don’t get paid anything and only live on retirement and savings from their vast fortunes they earned prior to their callings, and that an unpaid ministry was a principle of the NT original church and that it is a sign of the true church.
No one really knows except the accountants, which leaves us here “speculating” but what other choice do we have? I think it is a question that should be asked and answered, and I don’t understand why the church is so secretive about where OUR money is getting spent.

Tithing literally means tenth and D&C 119:4 specifically talks about requiring members to pay one-tenth of their “interest” annually. My point is that I don’t see how it is really fair or accurate to try to define “interest” as gross income for everyone when so many members already have to spend so much of this income just to pay their mortgage/rent, car payments and other bills, taxes, groceries, etc. It just doesn’t add up and it looks to me like an impractical half-baked opinion that has been passed off as doctrine so far.
Just what is meant by interest anyway. Sounds to me like Joseph was saying you needed to pay 10% of your total worth yearly. Not sure how you get income out of interest.

GuestActual numbers are mere speculation, and I’ve heard an incredibly large range from people who “have it on good authority” or “heard it directly from a GA” or some other such claim. We don’t know, since those numbers aren’t published. I really do understand the angst many people feel over the lack of full disclosure. Just because I don’t, doesn’t mean others shouldn’t. As I’ve said in another thread (too tired tonight to try to find it), this is one where I really do understand and agree with elements of both sides of the discussion.

GuestI read in a book somewhere (sorry can’t be anymore specific than that) that qouted an old Apostle circa 1950’s complaining that the stipend he received from the church was a glorified retirement. The gist of it was that most of the “compensation package” was received in intangable blessings. Much can change in 60 years but that was my impression from that book. -
