Today in fast and testimony meeting I stood with my dad, my father-in-law, my brothers-in-law, and two of my very close friends. We held my new daughter in our arms and we gave her a blessing. After the meeting we went to our home and ate breakfast. This church ordinance brought us together. I am grateful that the church allows a non TR holding member like myself to still perform this ordinance. My oldest turns eight in a year and half. From what I understand I’ll be able to baptize her, but not confirm her. I’m not sure how I feel about this still. But for now, I will enjoy today’s good experience.

Congrats, friend. Blessing one’s baby is a wonderful thing.

Yes. This is one LDS tradition that I really like. I’m with you — I hope the LDS church will not make policiy and rules that will end up excluding fathers from these kind of spiritual family experiences. It would be shame.

I am not sure if this has been the policy for some time or has been recently “adjusted,” but I also rejoice that this point has been brought more clarity of late.

Thanks for sharing that Mtnman. It sounds like it was a wonderful experience.

It was very recent — November 2010. It was changed in the most recent Church Handbook of Instruction that was released in that month.
