Guest😯 😮 It’s not actually that big of a deal. They just asked me to share my favorite hymn and take 2 minutes to talk about it. But it’s kind of a big step for me. What are some hymns that are doubter-friendly?

GuestMaster the Tempest is Raging, Abide with Me, Rejoice the Lord is King, A Mighty Fortress is Our God, Onward Christian Soldiers, Sweet Hour of Prayer, Where Can I Turn for Peace, I Believe in Christ, Oh My Father (especially the Heavenly Mother part), I Am A Child of God, Love One Another, Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing (no longer in our hymn book, but used to be, very appropriate), Any and all Christmas and Easter Hymns. Last of all my favorite Primary hymn – My Heavenly Father Loves Me or as I call it, Whenever I hear the song of a bird…
Congratulations – that’s a talk I would love to give. You will do great.

GuestHow about Praise to the Man or Adam-ondi-Ahman? Sorry, couldn’t resist. I love hymns, they have continued to anchor me to my spiritual side despite what battles are raging. I also absolutely love Abide With Me. That Easter Morn, strangely enough, holds a special place in my heart. I second Where Can I Turn for Peace. Do What Is Right has taken on a different meaning in more recent years.
I could list off dozens but I think you’d find more meaning if you selected a hymn that spoke to you personally.
Good luck.

GuestLead Kindly Light is one of my favorites, and despite what I might believe If You Could Hie to Kolob is one of the most beautiful hymns to me – not only the music, but the questioning of the lyrics – where did this all start from? Come Thou Font of Every Blessing is also a favorite of mine…It should be in our hymn book, I’m not sure why its not. Our Stake and Ward Choir have both sung that one recently.

GuestI will third the suggestion to add back “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing” I noticed that “Softly and Tenderly” was sung by the Tab in conference. Another good one that my evangelical friends and I both like. Very basic on Christ’s love for sinners.

GuestI like scatter sunshine. U could talk about being positive and complementary to others and its impact. No doctrine and no faith issues there. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk

GuestAmazing Grace. I talked about that hymn on Easter Sunday and it was very well received even though not in our hymnbook. October 31, 2014 at 3:09 pm #291258Anonymous
GuestYes, Daeruin, there are some hymns/songs that really do speak to me, and per a thread a few moths back some I don’t like at all. Like Nibbler I’d say it would be me authentic if you picked one that really speaks to you. October 31, 2014 at 3:56 pm #291259Anonymous
Guest#272 – Oh say what is truth? There’s lots to think about in that one.

Good luck. I think that’s a great assignment.

GuestIn think it really is a big deal. In my life any non recurring interaction with the church is a big deal. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk

GuestI Stand All Amazed November 1, 2014 at 12:04 am #291264Anonymous
GuestThanks for all the suggestions! I have always loved singing and sang in the ward choir for a long time after my faith crisis. There are so many beautiful hymns. I would have a hard time choosing based on aesthetics alone. But since my faith transition a lot of hymns that previously spoke to me now break my heart instead. It will be hard for me to pick one I enjoy singing and carries a message that’s meaningful to me. I definitely intend to choose one that’s meaningful to me (as much a possible), but I was hoping you guys would remind me if one I like that is doubter friendly. I love the message of Oh Say What Is Truth, heber13! Alas, I don’t like the tune at all. I feel like a heretic saying this, but I have never liked I Stand All Amazed.
I will let you know what I pick. I am open to more suggestions.

Guest#124, Be Still, My Soul 1. Be still, my soul: The Lord is on thy side;
With patience bear thy cross of grief or pain.
Leave to thy God to order and provide;
In ev’ry change he faithful will remain.
Be still, my soul: Thy best, thy heav’nly Friend
Thru thorny ways leads to a joyful end.
2. Be still, my soul: Thy God doth undertake
To guide the future as he has the past.
Thy hope, thy confidence let nothing shake;
All now mysterious shall be bright at last.
Be still, my soul: The waves and winds still know
His voice who ruled them while he dwelt below.
3. Be still, my soul: The hour is hast’ning on
When we shall be forever with the Lord,
When disappointment, grief, and fear are gone,
Sorrow forgot, love’s purest joys restored.
Be still, my soul: When change and tears are past,
All safe and blessed we shall meet at last.
