How open should I be in my honesty?
I’d say, be more honest with the Church than the Church has been with you.

GuestI believe in being creatively honest. I am honest, but I am creatively honest. I also am selectively honest. Sometimes, the best thing for someone (myself or someone else) is to be honest and authentic but not completely transparent. Those are three different things, and the differences are important. Above all else, with rare exceptions, I strive to be honest in a way that does no harm.

GuestHi, so ….my advice might be different. I have had similar experience with the anxiety/ OCD / porn/ masturbation. I went to therapist, learned cognitive behavior therapy and was put on anti anxiety meds. It didn’t ” cure” me, it just help me be more aware that I had problems. Fast forward 10 years….off the meds and i have studied, prayed and received knowledge. I had a massive Candida overgrowth in my guts. Due to heavy metal toxicity. Metal and Candida causes anxiety and OCD and inflammation in the body. Basically your body is in a toxic state and is in a state of panic. The autism is also caused by the metals, mine manifests in the autism spectrum as Aspergers. So, now you may wonder how the porn/ masturbation fits in. Its your body crying for help with the inflammation. Your heart, and other organs are in danger when they are inflammed. I found A medical article that showed that sex/masturbation acts as an ANTI -inflammatory. So what I learned was that I was not a ” bad person” for having desire. It was just my body’s only way of taking away the inflammation. It was now a way for me to use that cognitive behavior therapy to understand that I needed to attend to my body. When ever I had the desire to masturbate. I realized it meant my body was inflamed. Chamomile tea, and caffeine are anti inflammatory. They will work as a temporary anti- inflammatory. But to get to the root of all these problems it is neccessary to do regular Heavy Metal Detox. Metal comes into our bodies in numerous ways. Thru breathing diesel fumes, drinking water with chlorine and flouride, eating foods with trans fats and hydrogenated oils ( they have metal as a preservative), deodorant has aluminum, tooth fillings have mercury…..and others….you can Google info about how to do the detox. And then enjoy being free from all these trials. God has blessed me with this knowledge and brought me to your post, I hope and pray it helps you. God bless. May 20, 2018 at 4:13 pm #328776Anonymous
GuestWhat I appreciate from BeLifey’s comments is that there may be real medical or real-world reasons (our body health, our mental health) that contribute to these things we face in life. It does not simply come down to if God is testing us (which is an allegory for our lives), or if we are strong enough spiritually or if we please god, or other black and white blanket answers that we hear at church sometimes. There are specific circumstances in each of our lives.
We need to find some paths forward that address our problems, many of which are outside of religion but we tend to see many things thru a Mormon lens because we have been taught to.
But OCD and tendencies or addictions…many of these things are outside of religion and starting to look for help or answers outside of mormonism may be needed.
If you have tried for years to find answers inside the church and keep feeling bad about yourself…go look elsewhere. Sometimes God pushes us to the point we are desperate to try anything…and perhaps even open our minds to finding answers from other churches, and sometimes reading outside texts or spiritual works to open our minds to new ideas, and then we can return to our Mormon church experience and apply new ideas.
But you need to look for new ways to get the support you need. It isn’t all about Mormonism in life. Take the blinders off, be open to wherever the Spirit guides, and focus on the true problems to get real help. It may take professionals to help you get there. CBT and DBT are good ways to go for coping mechanisms for our issues in life. There is help.

GuestI agree that CBT and DBT can be excellent approaches – to lots of things. May 23, 2018 at 6:56 am #328778Anonymous
