I ordained my son

I ordained my son on Sunday. It was tough from a number of practical angles, as I was sick, he was hard to get to church, etceera, but he was ordained a teacher, apparently willingnly.

Spirit was present in spite of my unorthodoxy. I blessed him to dedicate his life to serving others after he had his own needs met. To broadening his love of reading to sharpen his abilities throughout his life. To seek happiness in doing good, and to make achieving happiness the object and design of his existence. To serve in ways that express his passions and talents.

We didn’t make a big deal of this in our home. Not like we did baptism and other milestones back when I was orthodox.

Should we make a big deal of it? Or just treat it as another event in life? Part of me is reluctant to make a big deal that he agreed to do it given my own feelings about the church, but I ask the question as it’s been on my mind.

I probably wouldn’t make a big deal of it. But, that’s me. I know I would talk to my son & try to extract (like a dentist) what it meant to him.

Neither of my sons were big talkers at that age. Today as adults, husbands & fathers, they talk more. It’s good to practice early.

Congratulations. In Spite of the turmoil I’m sure it was a great experience.

I wouldn’t worry about the latter. He’ll get more than what I consider a healthy dose of that at church.
