So we are having our weekly dinner at my folks. They don’t really go to church anymore except for special occasions. They are faithful tithe payers and certainly do not consider themselves less-active. My dad has some health problems that he’s not comfortable with and visiting with people is a little difficult. He takes a long time to process things sometimes. He’s 80 this year. Most of the time he just sits and listens to the conversation.

ANYWAY, he pipes up and asks when the church was going to start including more minorities in leadership? And he sites several examples of what he thinks should be happening.

So I say, it’s coming, we just have to be patient. Apparently he’s thinking that it is’t happening fast enough.

Sometimes he surprises me and then I realize he’s probably been saying this kinda stuff all of my life and I just didn’t realize he was shaping my thinking. Causing me to question and think. He was the first person to suggest to me that maybe Jesus had been married. So if I’m a rebel I think I learned it from my dad.

    What’s your excuse?? :D

    Yeah, I’m not sure.

My dad was a smoker/drinker and held the calling of ward/financial clerk for 22 years — the bishops would never release him because they knew that was the only reason he would go to church. NOW he is an ubber literalists TBM, and lectures me all the time. My mom is, and always has been a TBM. I have four brothers, all of them are either SP, Bishops, councilors or HP at this time.

I just fell through the cracks I guess.

You provide balance in the force, cwald.

I’m very much a chip off the old block in many ways – only I actually enjoyed school.
