    Quote:

I think we are property. I should say we belong to something: that at one time, this Earth was No-Man’s Land, that other worlds explored and colonized here, and fought amongst themselves for possession, but that now it’s owned by something…

I suspect that, after all, we’re useful – that among contesting claimants, adjustment has occurred, or that something now has a legal right to us, by force, or by having paid out analogues of beads for us to former, more primitive, owners of us – that all this has been known, perhaps for ages, to certain ones upon this earth, a cult or order, members of which function like bellwethers to the rest of us, or as superior slaves or overseers, directing us in accordance with instructions received – from Somewhere else – in our mysterious usefulness…

But I accept that, in the past, before proprietorship was established, inhabitants of a host of other worlds have – dropped here, hopped here, wafted, sailed, flown, motored – walked here, for all I know – been pulled here, been pushed, have come singly, have come in enormous numbers, have visited occassionally, have visited periodically for hunting, trading, replenishing harems, mining, have been unable to stay here, have established colonies here, have been lost here: far advanced peoples, or things, and primitive peoples or whatever they were: white ones, black ones, yellow ones…

I read through this a couple times it’s a very interesting quote.

The opening paragraph is very interesting theory. It reminds me of mission to mars and other science fiction. Maybe our ancestors were a highly evolved technological people who chose to colonies here.

If that was the case I think it would be interesting that they chose to remain here. Maybe they came from a dying planet or found this world more relaxing and didn’t want to go back to the old way of life. It’s like they went on a permanent vacation

Of course this maybe somewhat out of context and he could just be calling the Americas the new world and the other countries the other worlds.

    Aside from all that:

I suppose in some ways we are owned by something.

Even if every person had his or her own private island rich with natural resources, water and food supply we would still be owned. We would be owned by the laws of gravity and other constant laws here on earth and in the universe.

When we chose to join organizations we become somewhat owned by the order of that organization.

No one is truly free but some are more free than others.

Well, he was ahead of his time. He was talking about some UFOs being ships from other worlds over a century ago. Back then people saw all kinds of things, but assumed they were angels etc.

It does pick up an interesting point. We’re told that huge numbers of systems support life, but it’s also claimed that there’s no evidence of them visiting us by the mainstream. (There are numerous fringe theories, but most of these came out after this quote) So the big question is a) why aren’t they visiting us (seemingly) and b) why haven’t we picked up their transmissions?

There’s also a fringe theory that humans were originally bred as a slave race. Would explain some things… Our religion seems to be full of mentions of servants and slaves which is interesting.

Yes agree, and the organization often overtakes its founders. I’ve seen that myself a few times.

Humans being a slave race reminds me of Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic (A game I once played nearly a decade ago.) There was once a super powerful species known as the Rakata. They conquered the entire galaxy (maybe more) They built droids to be slave masters over all the other species in the land. They had a powerful space station where they continuously built everything they needed to stay in power. The hunger for power eventually caused the Rakata to go into Civil war. One day a lethal virus began killing all the Rakata through out the galaxy. This virus only did harm to the Rakata. The virus may have been made by one of the species the Rakata had enslaved.

If we were a slave race perhaps we found a way to do harm to the Masters. Perhaps they left to save themselves. Maybe they came back to check up on us only to find that we are an even more dangerous species than before. Perhaps the most common cold virus could be the most lethal to the E.T.

Perhaps they are just waiting for us to destroy ourselves before they attempt to rebuild and re-establish another species to breed to be workers.

I think the slave race theory explains a lot of our submissive tendencies. Often it takes a charismatic leader or a brutal thug to unite people behind them, and to do the most stupid things.

Either that or people are more like dogs than they care to realize.

There is a genuine mystery as to why we have not been contacted openly. Presumably it’s partly to do with the fact that many civilisations don’t last long enough, and probably many planets only sustain primitive life (the vast majority of life on Earth has always been one celled, and was so for far longer than us multicellular types have been)… Also, what makes them want to contact us? Maybe we’re seen as a bunch of knuckle draggers.

Sounds a lot like Ancient Astronaut theory. There are a lot of books written on the topic, and a show called Ancient Aliens on History channel. I read one book called Chariots of the Gods by Eric Von Daniken. Very interesting stuff; he mentions how when European explorers first came to the Americas, they were worshiped as gods, in part because of their superior technology. The same thing happened again in the Pacific Islands during World War II with cargo cults. The author makes the case that a lot of the oddities we find in ancient writings about angelic visitations may have been visitors from other planets with technologies that to primitive minds could only me described as magical. It was an interesting read. Ancient Astronaut theorists crack me up though with their tendency to try and turn every strange painting or wood carving they find into a spaceship.

Yeah, the ancient astronaut stuff is cool, but it’s a bit like vampires… a bit overexposed these days. “Prometheus” (the alien prequel) features the idea…

Yet now and again, they do genuinely stumble upon oddities.
