Hi, SomeUsername – (Gosh, you’re probably saying that you were born in 1984, which makes me feel so very old….) But, back to the point, I don’t know how it’s going to play out, either, except, that like you I am committed to my family. I remember one moment of complete panic when I cataloged everything I didn’t believe anymore. But I had a feeling come over me that things were going to be alright. Good luck and best wishes as you approach the birth (and blessing
🙂 ) of your son.March 7, 2014 at 2:48 am #281335Anonymous
GuestHi someusername. Like you I am a bit different. Often misunderstood really. Also like you I spend a lot of time designing art, but in motion in various mediums, but also have a strong tinkering engineering side as well As poetry. It’s how I reflect different positions at the same time as I look at things through each lens and perspective by switching googles as it were. It helps growing up in a very diverse multiculture. Multicultural values and beliefs seem to be a strength but also a weekness with black and white thinkers who do not classify you as a “pure bred” ir “true” whatever.
This multi culture shapes my multi view of the world as I try in earnest to look through reach lens and gain perspective.
I have deep deep ancestry which I prefer to remain anonymous. But I do have some historic diaries which the certain church leaders long ago. It’s these things I read through that kept to me as I grew up with a very different version if them. One word they used to describe themselves and certain others in the dairy as “rowdy”. His own words not mine.
It makes for fun and nice reding though. More human, less mystic and unrelatable.
Look forward to seeing your post. Btw, what art do you do? Sorry if I missed it.

GuestWelcome! I really like a lot of the answers in this thread already. I would just add a few things. Your spiritual journey is personal and unique to you. You can choose to hold on to the things in the church that make you happy and give you security, and discard the things that don’t. You mentioned several things that still bring you joy and fulfillment. There’s nothing hypocritical about holding on to those things, while still having doubts and/or disagreeing with other things. It’s not all or nothing.
I believe the church was never setup to be the bedrock of our spirituality, but is there to be the governing body and structure. It gives us a place to serve, fellowship, and perform rituals to remind us of God. The spiritual part is up to us individually, and shouldn’t be attached to the actions or policies of the church.
I don’t know if this is a great analogy, but it’s almost like being American. There are some very dark episodes in our country’s history. I’m also against much of what our government does today. Having said that, I would never give up my citizenship or move to another country. I love it here and am proud to be an american. I kind of feel like that about the church. I don’t agree with everything and know there are dark periods in the past. But it’s my tribe and I still love being a Mormon. Instead of leaving, I personally feel I have an opportunity to share my unique perspective and truth, regardless what others think or say.

GuestSome Username84, I recommend that continue wearing your garments. You’re on a forum called “Stay LDS” so I assume you want to stay LDS, and wearing garments will help you feel LDS. If you switch over to Gentile underwear, you’ll feel more like a Gentile. Also, I do think that garments have protective spiritual qualities. Call me superstitious, but that’s what I think. -
