GuestOne of my daughters is a high school junior. For an assignment in her English class on Tuesday, she wrote the following poem. To say I am proud of her would be an understatement – and she got NO help or input from me.
The Map
3-20-12
Imagine if
You are a child.
You find a map;
A pirate’s treasure map.
You search.
Everyone searches.
For their keys,
For their shoes,
For their dreams.
They search.
When you are searching,
What are you searching for?
Something nonessential?
Something worthwhile?
Searching for change?
And how do you search?
Do you agonize over it?
Are you annoyed by it?
Do you feel anxious about it?
Are you diligent?
When do you find it?
After an hour?
After twenty-four?
After one-hundred and sixty-eight?
After you’ve given up?
What if you never find it?
What if you never stop searching?
What if the map is infinite?
What if that’s the point?
Imagine if.

GuestThanks, Mike. After thinking about it some more, I posted it as my New Year’s resolution post on my personal blog for this weekend. I think it has some deep implications of how we approach faith in the Atonement. Also, I like that it started with searching for keys (since that is a common theme and also a lightning rod for criticism) and moved to searching for dreams. Maybe the faith to pray to find one’s keys is a pre-condition for many to search to find the ultimate dream.
Maybe it’s not about the keys but, instead, the search-orientation that matters.

GuestThis is the first time on this section of the forum. I have stayed away as I am afraid of more confusion. I was so wrong. I am going to print this out. I love it!!
I keep searching for answers and fearing that I will never feel satisfied. For some reason this poem settled my Soul.
in particularly this:
Quote:What if you never find it?What if you never stop searching?
What if the map is infinite?
What if that’s the point?
Imagine if.
Your daughter is incredible! and inspiring.
Tell her thank you! and thank you for sharing.

GuestA friend posted this on Facebook today and I really enjoy it. I’ve been trying to get into the practice of mindfulness, and I think both Old-Timer’s daughter’s poem and this comic strip fit beautifully. What if we let go of our need for control? What would happen if we really were that flexible? March 5, 2015 at 7:39 pm #251050Anonymous
GuestWhat a great poem and cartoon. I had to make note of it so I could find it again. http://richalger.blogspot.com/2015/03/imagine-if-you-find-map.html February 5, 2016 at 5:09 pm #251051Anonymous
GuestSome of the recent posts from new participants reminded me of this post. I hope the poem helps someone new in some way.

GuestI read this poem yesterday morning. I had been feeling anxious about teaching gospel doctrine, and the poem gave me a very calming feeling. I even talked about the poem a little during my lesson (I hope that’s ok) after I asked a question that no one had an answer to. Thanks for bumping this! -
